Back From The @#$%! Middle East...

(That's right, We had damn-near 6,000 soldiers in a landfill north of Dammanm Saudi Arabia.) They'd string about 16 of those in a row, then you had s.o.b.'s that would complain that your water was splashing on them.. To which I replied, you are 20 inches away from me. If you can show me how to keep water from going where it wants, I'lll gladly stop splashing you...
6-7 weeks later, many of us got attached to other units, I stayed with 11th sig, and we ended up moving into some portable 8-man mini trailers in a cement factory that became "Camp Thunderbird"... It wasn't luxury accomodations, but it was the Waldorf Astoria compared to a GP Medium tent with 16 soldiers in it...
I had plenty of dirt time to reflect upon how stupid I was not to accept a posting with the White House Communications Agency.... (WHCA)
I never got that chance again...

That way you'll make sure you're kicking the right ****! LOL.
I had a good friend that was the crew-cheif on B-52's at Barksdale AFB. He transferred from the Air Force to the Army; no he's a firefighter..
I love jets so much, if I had started, I'd probably still be working around them, in some way, shape or form... I was a wire systems installer (Phone man/4 years) when I joined the Army: AKA "Cable-Dawg". When I re-uped I became a switching system technician...
When I got out, I started work for EDS, at a salary that was more than double my base US Army salary, and I remained telecom. Been doing this for 19 years now...
One of my high school friends joined a year after me, and became 11B. Yes, he made Sergeant E-5 a year before me, and when I pinned on E-5, he was getting E-6; for promotional reason,s I understand goign into combat arms. He made E-7, and has been stuck there for damn-near a decade;with 18 yeas TIS, he should at least be an E-8. But, he's still an infantryman- which is the most honorable MOS one could have...
But now, he's 36 years old, will be ETS/Retiring in 2 years... The question becomes... "Where the hell are you goign to apply that skillset in the real world?" He should have reenlisted (At E-6) and got an MOS that can utilize his training, and make him some $ once he retires at 38/39.
Being a Sergeant, he can definielt start somewhere as a manager (Leadership experience) but, doing what???
Sorry about the rant... I just wonder what the hell he was thinking..
I hear ya HERSH....thats one of the main reasons I got out when I did. It's not like I could go to American Airlines and do what I did in the AirForce. I miss it at times, but dont regret getting out at all. I have a buddy that I was in with, he stayed when I got out. Did 14 years and then decided he was going nowhere and got out. Now that, IMO, was stupid. After that many years with now future, I think I would've taken advantage of school while I was in, got my degree in something I liked, finished my time and then retired with a purpose. Unfortunately, he fell in love, married a girl with 4 kids and she forced him to get out...So Sad...

On the other hand, using logic, the Emeratis are probably our best allies in the Arab world. Since we support Israel (which is the cause of 90% of our problems in the middle east) all of the arabs hate us. The Emerates & Qatar really don't care one way or the other about Israel which is why they tolerate us and allow us to use their facilities. I personally think we should tell Israel to go f themselves and the rest will work itself out. Never going to happen but it should. Since the entire country was up in arms over Dubai running our ports all that's done is damage our business relationship with our best ally in the gulf. In other words, it was a stupid move on the US's part. The deal should have gone thru. Right now, AT LEAST 8 countries have controlling interest in our ports. None of them happened to be from the middle east so that was the only bad thing. Dubai Ports World Inc. runs the single most reliable, economical, secure & efficient port on earth. They screen 95% of the cargo bound for US receivers in the gulf. Even with those credentials, the American public told them to go f themselves just about ruining one of the best business relationship the US had. Sometimes I wish the general populace would educate themselves before making an emotional decision. If the decision would have been made with logic instead of emotion who knows what would have happened.
