Direct TV or Dish Network
Direct TV...it rocks. I've had ot for about 4 years or more and love it. My only problem is I have the Phillips boxes and they suck. Always loose the program and has to reboot itself. Well, the one in the living room anyway, the one in the bedroom is fine and the one out in the family room is and RCA HD box. I own all my equipment so I dont have any lease or contract with D/TV. Its cheap enough to buy anymore, and a lot of times they will give it to you for free
COMCAST....BLOWS, and thats all I'll say.
Never had, or even seen what Dish offers so I can't comment.

We had DirectTV and went to Dish....bad idea. The only reason we switched was because our DTV contract ended and Dish was doing a good deal.
With Dish, you loose signal if you just look at the dish funny, when changing the channels it takes 30 hours for a picture to show up (not a big deal to some, bothers the heck outta me though), it has to download the guide everytime you loose signal, which takes another 30 hours, and a lot of time when you go very far ahead in the guide, it stops and has to download alittle more, so add another 30 hours, when it finishes you go alittle farther ahead and it has to download more. I havent noticed that last part as much lately, more when we first got it.
Didnt have any of that BS it the Direct TV. Only problem we had with it was a fried reciever. I cant evenremember what happened to it now.
We just get the BASIC package of channels, and the Dish did include a few more channels, some good ones, most crap, but we did loose some good ones that we got with DTV and not Dish. Not a big deal since you can order channels separate though.
If we did it all over again I would try to go back to DirectTV

It seems to me like the pricing has gone down from when I last looked into it.
I got notice with my bill last month that DirecTV is raising their rates. I'll be paying an additional $5 a month with the new rates but out here in the sticks its pay up or no TV!! I've had my DirecTV for several months now and I really like it. Better picture most of the time over cable and, so far, very reliable service!

I haven't quite resigned myself to pay for all that but dial-up does get a little frustrating!Good Luck!

HAHAHA...well when you put all my posts together like that, I guess it does look kinda bad.I havent been in the best of moods lately....BUT...thats all about to change.
To back up my "comcast...sucks"comment. 2 things...when I got it, they had some deal going on and said they would buy all my D/TV equipment for $400. It was to be credited to my bill in $50 increments each month. Long story short...that never happened, everytime I called they said just deduct it from the bill and we will take care of it. I kept getting late fees which I had to call and fight over everymonth. Then..the signal was crappy and I had lines in the picture all the time. They came out to look at it and said that the power in my house is bad and thats what was causing it....I canceled it the next day and went back to D/TV. I'm just saying, I had a bad experience with them and will never deal with them again, unless I am forced to.
Oh yeh..Kindle does suck..you seen my reasoning on that
I'll leave the smoking one alone....
And don't even get me started on the shoobies

Does anyone else have problems with rain, wind, snow? I live by an airport; should I be concerned?

I have only lost my signal once due to a rain storm. But it was a massive downpour. Other than that...its all good

ok i'm here to answer all your questions.
Sorry I found this thread late.
Go ahead and ask away.
Dish Vs Direct? Well, it usually boils down to each persons situation. I can solve every problem that you guys may be having in this thread. After selling dish and direct for a long *** time, Dish Network appeals to me more. To the football fan you can't say no to Directv though. hehe. There are alot of reasons why dish net would be better for one person and direct for another. I can explain in detail. However, go ahead and ask questions or tell me of what problems your having and I can diagnose it and give you the best solution pretty easily.

I've had Direct TV for about 4 years now. I initially went with Direct TV because they are the only ones who offer the NFL package, which is a "must have" for me.
Knowing what I know now, I only wish I hadn't waited for so long to convert! Direct TV is infinitely more reliable, and offers better picture quality than I ever had with cable!
Very pleased with Direct TV!

I have had DirecTV since ’99. The biggest problem that I have is with HD. I got HD at the end of ’04. I paid $250 for a new receiver and dish plus I had to buy a $100 off-air antenna to pick up my local channels in HD. They came out with a HD DVR (Tivo) and the wife would love it but they want at least $300 with a $200 rebate. I found out that there are new satellites for the new MPEG-4 HD. When this is available for everyone, I will need another new receiver. I am going to wait until I see where all of this ends up. I have also read that they are going to start leasing equipment like cable companies.
Next month we are supposed to get our local in Orlando in HD through the satellite so I will not need my off-air antenna.
I considered going to cable because the equipment is less and they offer more HD channels but a salesman talked me out of it. The non-HD channels on DirecTV are still 4:3 ratio but at least they are all digital. On cable only some of the non-HD channels are digital. All of the rest are analog and he said that they look so bad on a 50” tv that you will not even want to watch them.
I have my internet service through the cable company. I looked at DirectWay (DirecTV’s internet service) but decided against it because of one main reason. Any uploads are still through your phone line. A satellite is only 1-way communication. You can not send data back to a satellite.
