We'll it seems definate that Toyota is coming to NASCAR Busch and Nextel
Cup series in '07. I don't know how many NASCAR fans are on this fourm, but I was wondering what you all thought of this. Will it influence how you perceive NASCAR racing? Will you watch it with more/less frequency?
I will not be following after '06 in part because Mark will be retiring and I have no longer have an interest in a sport that used to be all American. Call it closed minded if you like(I really don't care), just wondering what other NASCAR fans thought about a sport that has more brand loyal fans than any other sport.

I'm still upset that Winston isn't the promoter instead of Nextel. But I guess it is the changing times.

Not real crazy about Toyota coming in, but then again I hated to see buick and pontiac and the like leave. At least this will give some that are not in real competitive rides right now a chance to get in one.
I will not watch if a toyota is on the track. It will ruin the sport thats already has been molested in recent years.

Don’t really matter to me. I have been a huge NASCAR fan since the 70’s and today there is absolutely NOTHING stock about stock car racing. It don’t matter what brand is racing on the track because they have very little to nothing to do with the car they represent, such as Ford, Chevy, Dodge, etc.
About all they have to have from the manufacture is the roof line and rear deck lid, other then that and some cosmetics to the front fascia they are all alike anyway. Also I believe in 2007 or 2008 they will all be identical cars as far as the body is concerned.
There is nothing from Goodyear, the tires used, that go into street tires, there is nothing from Ford, Chevy, Dodge or any other manufacture that goes into street cars. They all make it sound that way but none of it has really any commonality in what is used in the public.
The motors are completely custom built. The engine block may be the only thing that is “factory” BEFORE the engine builders get a hold of it, then its no longer STOCK, its all modified and I don’t care what Ford or any of the others may say there is NOTHING that comes from racing in NASCAR that somehow magically makes it into the cars we all drive on the road. You hear the BS from the manufactures that their automobiles take advantage of performance improvements from racing, its all complete BS…
Don’t worry about the truck series either, there is absolutely nothing in the truck series that comes close to any actual truck.
Think of it this way, when a Ford beats a Chevy, or a Toyota beats a Ford, its nothing more then that manufactures sticker on the front of the car that beat another car, other then that it means nothing.
You hear Chevy with their BS hype about 25 of the last 34 manufactures championships in NASCAR, that’s all it is BS I guess they figure their customers are as stupid as Dodge customers that believe Hemi’s are special only to Dodge…
Use to be in the 80’s and I believe 90’s, not sure if its still true today, but years ago ALL NASCAR cars used Ford rear-ends, yep Chevy and Dodge used Ford rear-ends in their NASCAR’S.

If you want to see what real STOCK car racing was about you need to watch some videos of races from the 60’s and 70’s. That is when NASCAR was about STOCK cars, cars you bought off the dealer lot, racing on the track.
Don’t recall the exact year, late 60’s early 70’s when Dodge came out with the Charger with the real tall rear wing. Dodge was ahead of it’s time when it came to aero dynamics and down force on the rear wheels.
Anyway, NASCAR only allowed that car to race in NASCAR for the year, or perhaps it was two. Reason was it kicked the chit out of everyone on the track.
It also use to be that to actually race a car in NASCAR there had to be at least 500 – 1000 of the exact same car (granted the doors weren’t welded, no roll cage, etc) for sale to the public straight from the manufacture. Referring back to the Dodge Charger with the tall rear wing, Dodge manufactured 500 – 1000, not sure how many, and sold them to the public. Worth some huge money now.
Like I was saying back when NASCAR was really STOCK car racing it was nothing to see a few cars like Petty and Allison win races with 5 – 10 laps over all the others…
Pit stops around 20 – 40 seconds, guys changing tires with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths and watching someone like Tony Stewart get his @ss whooped big time had he pulled some wussy crap like he did in this years 500.
NASCAR in the 50, 60 and 70’s was a man’s sport, today it’s a family Disneyland environment. I still love it, but its highly modified unavailable to the public automobiles with stickers from Ford, Chevy and the others…
Don’t sweat Toyota, its nothing more then a new sticker on a vehicle…

I was at the car show a couple days ago. Passed by the Toyota section, and Toyota had there Nascar Toyota Camry out. I got pretty upset seeing that car as I hate seeing Toyota have to butt in with Nascar when they don't belong in there. Toyota seems like they have to butt in with everything going on in this world now a days.
Well the one good thing about Toyota is that hopefully Ford and others will learn from their world leading business and manufacturing techniques. If Ford was to learn those lessons then perhaps one day in the future they will be back on top. For now Ford will have to wallow through the mud pits until they figure out how to be on the world stage when it comes to quality, productivity and profit margins…
My biggest concern is that Toyota will come in and drive the cost of competing up until the little guys can't afford to be competitive. The field of cars will get smaller and smaller. Then when they have a hard time getting 43 cars to fill the field, and ratings are in the crapper, they will get bored and pull out. Basically ruining the entire thing.
Look at open wheel racing if you think this won't happen. Did they even have enough cars to bump anyone out of the Indy 500 last year?
