Snowboard jumping around is an Olympic sport?

The Hell???

I turn on the TV and see a bunch of kids who look like professional stoners going back and forth jumping around and then throwing gang type signs at the camera . . . and this is an Olympic sport? And evidently Carrot Top or Yahoo Serious is the sport leader.

Far out dude!

Speaking of Bode - (In the BODE DIDN'T WIN GOLD THREAD)

I'm watching here on the left coast and the downhill hasn't aired yet but seeing the thread title sorta ruined it (thanks) . . . but anyway, I still want to see what all the hype about this guy is. I'm never seen him but heard he was a royal a**hole who is self-destructive and irresponsible. I don't know how good he actually is, but I don't think anyone will impress me more than Franz Klammer did back in '76 . . . oh my God, right after I typed that, I realized that was 30 years ago!!!!

Franz . . . where are you?!?!?!

A "reporter" asked one of these kids (an American) to comment on his run:

"Aw, dude, I'm so totally stoked to be here. We're just throwing down and it's totally cool!"

Uhhhh . . . OK.

If curling is an event than frankly Snowman building can be an event.

I was shocked when I saw the snow boarder in the event...look so professional then he took off the gear for an interview....I didnt know carrot top was that good.

i am pretty sure franz is dead, and i remember him also.

i remember him way more than the 'thrill of victory'

but not as much as the 'agony of defeat'.

Why give the kids a hard time? They are just out there having a good time, and I did not see one single kid disrespect the US. As a matter of fact, they showed that WE are the best in the world. Who cares how they choose to talk, I guess your parents understood you your entire life......right? How many of us in our teens had to hear crap from our parants and other people on how we dressed, spoke, walked....etc and we would say "you just don't understand". Now look, you are doing it too. Give them a break, they are young and having fun and making the US look good in the process. I guess to make matter worse, he(Shaun White, Olympic Gold Winner) skateboards too. Is that bad also? People should stop be so close minded and judging other people too fast. Point of all of this is, don't judge these kids too fast. There are a lot worse people in the world than snowboarders, skateboards etc. Also, I don't know about you, but I'd love to have the skills these guys have on a snowboard, and with those skills, I'd talk any way I wanted.

time to dust off the George Carlin...

swimming isn't a sport. Its a way to keep from drowning.

running isn't a sport. It's a way to get somewhere. I run to the store for a loaf of bread I don't get any medals.

gymnastics isn't a sport because Romanians are good at it.

Hockey isn't a sport. Its 3 activities in one. Skating, playing with a puck and boxing

Golf isn't a sport. It goes against all sporting logic to have the lowest score possible.

Soccer isnt a sport because it has dots on the ball. And you cant use your hands. What's THAT all about?

Yes it is a sport and Shaun White is a millionaire from it.

If they can call Women's Hockey (where they cannot even check each other) a sport than snowboarding has to be a sport. I call that figure skating with a stick.

Check out this interview with Shaun White...pretty funny read.

http://www.nbcolympics.com/athletes/...=;t=13;tab=Q&A

On purchasing an expensive car before he had a driver's license: "We walk into the Lexus dealership. And I'm, like …wearing my skate clothes. Like, I probably have my skateboard with me. They're like, 'What is this guy thinking?' And I went to go do my first test drive. I didn't have my license yet. I had like a paper license. Because I had just got it at the DMV. And so I was like, 'Hey, can I test-drive it?' And they're like, the first three guys said, 'No.' And then they're like, 'Well, maybe Dan will take him out'. And Dan's, like, just got finished drinking in the back."

That was 7 "like's" in just a few sentences.

Update on Franz:

Klammer is still alive (heck, he's only 52 or 53)

He started the Franz Klammer Foundation which is so sking foundation, he has ties to the IOC, has a lot of business deals (has tie in with the Fairmount Hotels with the Franz Klammer Lodge in Telluride, CO., plays a lot of golf, and about 6 or so years ago got back into skiing at events (I'm guessing the equivlient of the Seniors tour in golf and tennis) . . . .

Yea Franz!!!!!!!

Who's Bode?

Snowboarding downhill is ok, but halfpipe? Come on. Maybe they should get the downhill skiers fly down the moguls at 85 mph as a sport. Also the ski jumpers should carry the curling stone with them and drop it on a target for score. Then halfpipe freestyle snowboarding will gain my olympic acceptance.

Gee guys...

Next you'll be saying that skateboarding isn't a 'real' sport!

Is this the generation gap I keep hearing about?

Hey, if synchronized swinning and rhythmic gymnastics can be Olympic sports, surely halfpipe can be.

Did you see those guys? They're clearing the top of the 'pipe by 15 feet or more, and doing 1080 degree turns... they may look like punks, but all that's pretty impressive if you ask me.

AND... they're the best at it in the world, big time. Both men and women have won gold and silver. Not many other winter sports where the USA is that dominant.

I tried snowboarding and I thought it was harder than skiing.
