Buying American Cars. What does it mean?
When it comes to mainstream automobiles (cars) and to a lesser extent, anything under $100,000, the Japanese cars are still the benchmark- like it or not... On trucks, it's still Ford; at least until the January.
39 out of the 47 models they export to the United States either topped their segment, or were in the top five in the most recent results... Only Ford had a car rank high, with regard to American Automakers, and that was the Fusion/Milan/Zephyr, which is (drumroll please) a rebadged, slightly re-engineered Mazda6.
The Infinity car line did not scrape the bottom of the barrell. The Infinity QX56 was the worst full-size SUV (In 2004) based upon Consumer Reports "Predicted Reliability". That was the first model year, and I think we all know the risk one takes with buying a first model year vehicle, you know, unless it's a Honda or a Toyota...
The Infiniti Q45, G35 and M35/45 rank consistently high...
I love my Ford, but I'm gonna tell you, if I could afford what I wanted, I'd have a 750Li in my garage, parked next to my M6, parked next to my wife's S550.
Ford makes some nice stuff too, I love my Fusion, and the F-150, but, at the end of the day, when I get in my Acura, there is no comparison...

I agree with you Bighersh about there being no comparison. I have both a Honda Accord (built in Libertyville, Ohio) and the F-150. I had a Focus before the Accord. I REALLY tried to stick with American cars, but let me tell you, coming from that Focus, into an Accord...WOW. There is just NO comparison on any front. Gas mileage in the Focus was terrible because you always had to mash the pedal to get it to go where you wanted. I get average 25mpg in the city with my 4 cyl Honda. The Honda is smooth and quiet and just overall very solid and nice. Being that the Accord is their bread and butter, it's kind of like Ford and their trucks. They're gonna pour all of their money and design efforts into it to make it the best. Honestly, I'll never go back to an American CAR, and I will never own a Japanese TRUCK.
Well, we'd all be driving German cars and Japanese trucks if they had won the BIG ONE!
Flash forward thirtyfive years.
You are sitting in your rocking chair on your front porch when your grandkid pulls up in his shiny new convertible.
you ask, "What in heck kind of car is that?"
the kid says, "Get with the Program grandad, it's my brand new 2041 Al Queda."
