Angry Cracked windshield !

I noticed a crack in my windshield yesterday. It's about 6-8 inches long.
Now, I have never had to deal with an issue like this, because in the past I could care less about the car I was driving. I don't know anything about windshield replacement/repair. So, I have a couple of questions.

1. Would it be better to have the windshield replaced, or repaired? They said they could repair it. BUT, they highly recommend replacing it because it is cracked at the very top of the windshield downward right behind the rearview mirror.

2. To repair it, it would cost me nothing. To replace it, it will cost me $50. 50 bucks for a new windshield sounds good. BUT, is that a safe route? What are my odds of leaks around the new windshield? Anyone have any experience in this?

I have yet to see a crack that was successfully repaired. Chips, yes, but not cracks. I would be thankful for the insurance and spend the $50. I bet you will be happier in the long run.

I would replace it for sure Jamz if you can get it for $50.00 I've had several done over the years and never had one leak. See if you can use Safelight Auto Glass company if they have them up there. Thats who I've always used and they do great work. They replaced one in my kiddo's car last year and no problems at all. Just my .02
