Hand Canon
Hand Cannon
Bought my wife a present for getting a new job...A S&W 500 manglem.
Before you get all WTF like lemme explain. She has always wanted a .50 handgun (do not ask me why). Once I explained that the Desert Eagle is a hunk of chit she relented and left me with the specs of '.50 cal' & 'hand gun'. I can work with simple parameters like that. Anyhow she also declared that we were not going to give each other expensive presents for Christmas this year and I'm too impatient to wait until her BD in Jan so I bought it now. Here's a link with pics.

Yeah, but it's perfectly fine to play butt darts. Don't get me started on Kaliban or SF people in particular.
This is the gun that the Brady bunch tried to have banned before it went into fullscale production. 2500 ft/lbs of muzzle energy. BOOOOOM!

Nice gun...I hope you got the S&W Performance Center modle with the ported barrel though since its for your wife. I have a Redhawk Alaskan and a Taurus Raging Bull both in 480 Casull and the recoil is significan but not terrible, however a lady would probably find them prety harsh.
As for the Desert Eagle being a POS...I would have to disagree but we don't have to get into that now.

It does have the compensators, one for jacketed ammo and one for lead. It's pretty easy to change too. The DE might be fine for some, I just don't care for it. To me it's the 'too gun'.
Too expensive
Too heavy
Too gaudy
But that's JMO.
I want the .460 XVR Limeted Edition with black frame and barrel and stainless cylinder.

S&W's are overpriced. Get a Ruger SuperRedhawk in 480 Ruger and you will be able to kill anything in North America at distances of 50 yards or less, or over 50 yards if you're a good shot. The Ruger will go for about $500 less than that fancy S&W. If you ask me, there is no comparison.
Desert Eagles are not POS's but they are more about looks than anything else. Which is why they come in caliber that you usually can't find anywhere or if you do, you'll pay like $60 for a box of shells. If you do get a Desert Eagle, get the 44Mag instead of the 50AE.

i shot one of the S.W. 500 and i didnt like it, the one i shot wasnt ported and the recoil was pretty feirce there is no way i would let my wife shoot it it would break her wrist unless i was using a low grain lead target round, i have a 454 casul with a 8 3/4 ported compensated barel and it is to much for my wife unless i use a 45 longcolt lead round, my wife can fire my 50 D.E. no problem the wieght absorbes most the recoil

You want some attention at the range? I have a TC Contender with a 45-70gvt barrel on it. BOOM!. I only got 1 round out of it before they told me to put it away. Something about shooting through the walls

I agree...for the money you can not beat the reliablilty and quality of a Redhawk (or a Blackhawk for that matter). The S&Ws are nice guns too but with them you are paying for the S&W name. I do love the old S&W rifles though...I have the only 2 high grade S&Ws I have ever seen in person. One in 270 and one in 7mag.
DEs are more or less conversation pieces IMO...they are quality guns but are really not pratical for anything (but thats really part of their attraction!)
