Fall sunsets and turning leaves are awesome
Fall sunsets and turning leaves are awesome
So I've been taking some pictures this wwek and figured I would post a few for you guys to check out. The sunsets are over the Deleware bay, the trees and ponds are down the street from me, hidden in the woods. A great spot for bass fishing. The small dock is on a back bay where I work and the others are around the house. The last one I am gong to post is at the ponds, but there is something floating around in the picture. Its the only one that has it out of about 20 pictures I took there tonight. I didnt see anythig flying around when I took it. Only noticed it when I downloaded it...Hmmm, kinda weird..anyone have any ideas?? So here they are, tell me what you think. Remember, im new to this photography thing and Digital SLR.

Nice pictures Tom. It still looks nice out there. Hell i bet we see snow in a week or so here in Iowa. That water just makes me want to come visit ya and bring the boat along out haha.
Beautiful! For me, especially the first set. Love the ocean, bay, whatever. That's why I stay in Jersey.

Hey Justin..its 70 degrees here..real nice. Prolly wont see snow for at least another month or so.
SAX...I was thinking the same thing, but in the un-resized picture, they dont look like seeds, I took a bunch of pictures in the same spot and thats the only one that has it in it...just kinda weird.
Lovetrucks,,,where are you? those pics are of the Deleware bay, if I were to turn the camera about 5 inches to the left, you would see the Cape May Ferry terminal. Its right there.

Well, thanks...I love this camera. Ive only had it a couple weeks now, so like I said, I have a lot to learn. I did a lot of research on DSLR cameras and got a lot of help on here from PSS-MAG, Photog95, Inbred and a few others. Do a search and you will see what I went thru. But after narowing it down to the Canon, the Nikon D50 and the Nikon D70, for me...the best deal was the D50 kit with the 2 lenses. Heres the thread that did me in...haha. Theres a lot of good onfo in there and some good links https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...&highlight=SLR

For a "Split Field Filter"
I can't remember what size lens you have but here is what they are.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...ughType=search
Split-Field filter consists of a close-up lens cut in half. Half of the filter is a close-up lens while the other half is open. With this filter, one-half of the photo receives a close-up effect while the other half is normal. In this way, it is possible to have both very close and far subjects in focus at the same time. Or, one-half of the picture can be out of focus for special effects. Commonly used for floral and landscape photography where sharpness near and far is important.
Here is an example coutesy of B&H Photo Video & Pro Audio:

You put the lens on wit hthe close up 1/2 on top, position the line between teh close up side and the normal side right on the horizon. Then the sunset and clouds are more in focus too.
I need to order on too, mine cracked, I was traveling from one location to another in somewhat of a hurry. Trying to get to the next location before I ran out of light, to save time I left the camera case open in the floor board of back seat. I had every thing positioned ready to grab it and start shooting as soon as I could. On the way a car pulled out in front of me so I had to hit the brakes rather hard. Case slid along the floor and ran under the front seat. Had a feeling I was going to need that lens so I had it pulled up out of it's slot but still in it's sleeve. When it hit teh seat it pu a hairline crack verticly down the lens.
It's one of those things that I know I need, I used it often, but I never think to grab it when I'm at the store.

Here is a side by side of what this one might would look like with a split filter.

It would actually look better, can only do so much digitally.
Note: I only added 7% more contrast and sharpened some. ONLY the top half. Notice how it made the entire image look more focused. I didnt do anything below the grass where the water actually stops beyond the pier.
I only worked with everything above this line.
