Calling all hunters
Well I'm new to all this hunting stuff. I've always wanted to go, but never had anyone to go with. Now my little brother and his friends all have guns and they are going and I'm invited.
My question is... What kind of gun should I get?
I know I want a 12 guage, pump action. We'll mainly be hunting Deer. I'm looking to spend around $200 and I will be buying from Wal-Mart to take advantage of my employee discount (20% on one single item around the holidays!)
Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm thinking that a shotgun is mostly for birds and skeet unless you're planning on using slugs in it. For deer, moose, elk, etc. you want something like a 30-06...
A lot depends on what you are hunting, that type of terrain you are hunting on, and what the laws are in you area. Here in much of Maryland, you can only use shotgun. Other areas can use rifle. If you are going to have one weapon for all, get a shotgun and get a slug barrel for it. That way you can hunts birds, squirrel, and deer.
We'll be hunting in west central/northern FL, mostly on private property, if that helps any.
If anyone is bored they could go to the wal-mart website and reccomend a good one. I would be very greatful.

If your budget is around $200 it will be had to find a weapon for you. I don't know about Florida but up here in Tennessee, rifle season is coming up. I own a 12 gauge side-by-side shotgun and a Marlin Lever action 30-30 rifle. My dad has a Remington pump .308 rifle and a Remington 12 gauge pump shotgun. My brother has a 20 gauge single shot shotgun and a Remington Springfleid .30-06 bolt action rifle.
I have hunted in FL before and some places are thick in trees and growth and some spots are clear and open. Want I recommend is the Marlin 336W lever action rifle. It's the same rifle I have. It holds 6 rounds and 1 in the chamber. The iron sights are so awesome because I shot a deer from a tree stand from exactly 176 yards.(I used a range finder) Another reason why I picked this rifle is because it's great for woods and the field. 30-30 rifles are also the most recommended rifle for wild boar because of the take down power.
Another weapon I recommend is the S&W Model 500 revovler. This revovler holds six rounds and one in the chamber. If you choose this weapon, deer will die from shock soo quickly because this revovler lauches a huge .50 caliber bullet. .50 cal pistols are known for being wrist breakers because the kick is very powerful and if you fire this weapon with one hand, the chances of hurting yourself is very high.
If you get a rifle for deer hunting use rifles with these caliber: .270, .300, 30-.06, .308, and 30-30.
Damn my fingers are tired.

I would have to say, for just getting into it, wanting a shotgun, $200 budget...I would go with the Mossberg 500 http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=3163656
This was my first gun ever and I still have it today. My mom and dad got it for me for my 15th birthday. I used it for Deer and birds. I love that gun and will never get rid of it.

I agree with BREWDUDE. I stil have mine Mossberg, 500a, pump, 12ga. I used it for many years for an all around hunting gun and has served (is serving) me well.

I like this one.
I wonder if that would be any good for a beginner?
I can get it for $215 with my discount.
And what is an adjustable fiber optic sight? Is it good to go right out of the box or does it have to be calibrated?
