Calling image specialist, Steve or anyone who might know.

Alright I'd appreciate it of somebody with more knowledge than me could figure this problem out. When I upload a .gif to my gallery then it gains in file size considerably.

Here are two images, both are the same picture, the first is hosted in F150online gallery the second on my private web hosting. Look at the difference in the file size.

F150online gallery:

578256 bytes

vs same image

Private hosted:

35161 bytes

That is exactly the same image!!!

But it only does it on .gif
The f150online gallery compresses .jpegs or .png I just don't understand why it's expanding the .gif larger than the original.

If you stick this up in the 'questions about the site' forum, you will be more likely to get Steve's attention. He doesn't browse this forum regularly.

The software we use behind the scenes to resize images (height/width) is not smart enough to understand the optimizations you have made with your animated gif file when it tries to resize it. My suggestion is to use the externally hosted version for this particular image.

I take it to mean that Adobe Image ready is out smarting the compression software of the site.
But it's back firing on me.

LOL

Not outsmarting, but the sites compression tools are not meant to deal with multi-frame GIF animations. Different format, different results. It's like putting 87 octane in your premium-only tune. Sure it will work, but not with the best results...

I am just learning animation, what other type of .gif is there?

I've had Image ready as long as I've had photoshop, I don't even know how many years, but I just opened it for the first time about 2 months ago. I haven't had time to research, when I do have time tehn I've just been playing with it til I get the desired effect.

Hey Matt -

Did you notice that RF on the private server is a bit faster than the one on F150 Online . . . .

Would that mean that if you put pix of your truck on the private server it would become faster in real life?

You may have discovered something here . . . .

The kids over on the Lightning thread are gonna love this!

P.S. Winter is coming (already there for Buckdropper)

:santa:

You know I do have several pics of my truck and others that I have worked on sitting on the server... They all run like BOH or at the very least better than expected per every other vehicles of the same make model and year vehicles.. Maybe there is some wierd cosmo connection?

How ever I didn't call it Power Speed & Style for nothing. Fast cars, need fast servers, and high bandwidth!

P.S. Fall just got here today. Finally got down to 60º for the high. Feels so good, air is so crisp and clear. Might have some frost in the morning. Man I hope so. Kill all these stinking flys, spiders, ants, ticks, chiggers that I've been fighting all summer long.

That is cool!

I had no idea that they are almost 20 years old. Lots of other cool history of digital images, with an emphasis on .gifs.

What I got from that though is that frames are used in all animated .gifs? (yes/no)

I'm just going to have to run through some tutorials and learn some more as soon as I can.
