It is a simple example of "beam theory".....imagine a simple beam (your truck body) supported on two ends (wheels).....when you place a weight in the middle of the beam (your fat a$s)....the beam will sag.....thus....Ford, being the fine engineers they are....anticipated that some big fat Texan goober would purchase one off those crappy STX's and provided a larger than normal gap between the bed and cab so that when this excessive weight was applied...that it would have ample room to flex......
