I have tried something similar to that.....we are no longer together.....but, not a big deal cause I don't want to be with someone that can't take my honest opinion when asked a direct question.....

My wife and I have an understanding...

1) Neither of us is the ultimate example of physical perfection or attraction.
2) We Love one another.
3) Because #2 is true, we'll do our best to help one another feel comfortable in our bodies, our clothes, etc.
4) Because #2 and 3 is true, we also reserve the right to 'veto' an outfit either of us likes; realizing the way others see us in that outfit may not be with such flattery as we view in the mirror.
5) Remembering the premise of 'love', It's our duty to 'not' get upset when the other says 'Honey, those jeans/that shirt/whatever does nothing to flatter you - maybe try another (pair, version?).

I tell my wife often 'No, honey, those 'jeans' don't make your *** look big - your large-ish *** makes your *** look big. Not that it's a 'bad' ***, it's just you need to find a pair of jeans which minimizes the all-encompassing-ness of your ***.'

...I say that to her...in my head.

What comes out of my mouth?

"hrm...I think you have another pair of jeans which are 'more' flattering..."

or

"Those aren't your best pair, toots."





My wife IS a 'big girl'...big hands (we wear the same size gloves), big wrists (if I wore her watch, I'd only need to make it about one notch larger), big feet (she borrows my birkenstocks to check the mail and walks just normal/fine in them).

She's like...skinny-big.
