The real truth about looting

Flat taxes would rule. I remember a good year I had and paid around 30K if F'in taxes. I would have like to known how those fat cats pay 5%. Best I ever did was like 9%. Guess I needed a better accountant. I don't think the rich should be taxed more, they should pay like the rest of us. Flat tax and be done with it. No loopholes, just pony up. Same for the poor losers making minimum wage supporting a family of 8. Pay up. Work hard, make your money and pay the same. God I hate doing my taxes.. .what an F'in nightmare... why not just take 15% of it and call it a day?
Anywho... I'm on high and dry land, albeit in the ghetto. If Detroit went under water... well, screw 'em! I'm outta here!

I have to respectfully disagree with my good friend cia-agent, I know he knows I consider him a friend even though I am more right then he is…
Anyway, I really don’t buy into there is “haves” and “have-nots”. I do buy into the fact there is “haves” and "haves-more”.
There is truly no poor people in this country. There is truly no “have-nots” in this country. If that were true they were just not able to find the welfare office.
The really only “have-nots” in this country are those that have chosen of their own free will to be a “have-not” and they are called homeless, at least to be political correct. There real title is useless and lazy…
Otherwise in this country everybody “haves” and those that don’t have as much as the “hard working busting their @ss responsible mature adults” want more of what they have rather then work for it themselves.
I truly wish I could dictate where my tax money went because I will tell you this, those that don’t work, who could (at least 80% of them) would get 4 loafs of bread, 4 gallons of water and that would be it for the month. They would sleep in tents out in the wilderness and not be provided any type of decent home, a tent would be just fine for them. I would give them some old warn out blankets to stay warm and some matches.
It would be up to them to find the wood, bring it back and light it up. If they wanted to eat more then the 4 loafs of bread they would have to go find some squirrels, mice or anything else they could catch and cook them up with their camp fire.
Tell you what, it wouldn’t take much of that until you seen them looking for real work, and becoming mature responsible adults ready to be re-introduced into the real world…

You get no argument from me there...
I'm all for welfare control, and the limitation of food stamps to those that truly need it. Once I got old enough to realize what it was, it sickened me that some of my friends had stay at home mothers (Courtesy of welfare & food stamps) in their 20’s- while my Mom (who was in her 30’s) had to bust her butt everyday. If she’s working, why aren’t they working?
Then on Saturdays in the grocery store- we'd see them with two baskets full of food; meanwhile I'm going around with my Mom with a calculator to make sure we didn't go over what she had budgeted for groceries.
So mom wouldn't need to spend as much on me, I tried to get a job via the after-school & summer programs- but couldn't because my Mom's salary was what they considered "too high", but two friends of mine (2-parent home with both parents in the executive ranks of the school system) got jobs in the same program~ it's not always what you know- but who you know, it seems.
So, to keep from having to ask my Mom for money, I started mowing yards in the neighborhood. People didn't want to pay anything back then; my most profitable yards paid me $10.00 (Two of them) the rest were $5.00 - $7.00. I had 9 yards, that I mowed every week, and two that I mowed every-other week.
During the summer I laid bricks when they needed me, and I worked in the cotton fields in the summer. (5:00 AM - 2:00 PM) I hustled my butt off, but I made money; rarely did I have to ask Mom for money (Only in the winter months when nothing was growing)
As was said above- there is a difference between a hand-up, and a hand out. I'm not saying America should keep patting them on their collective a$$es until they feel better. What I'm saying that in the face of a national tragedy- it is not unreasonable of Americans to come to the aid of other Americans who are now a$$-out... Whether they brought it upon themselves or not.
For those that don't agree; don't contribute any time, money or clothing~ that might make you feel a little better about not helping. But, the rest of us Americans will come to the aid of our brothers & sisters; even if they are poor, even if they are lazy, even if they are old, even if they are not of the same race.
Sometimes people have to be protected from themselves, whether we like it or not. If you'll recall, I was one of the first that said the national guard should mow those SOB's down that were shooting at them. I believed it then, I believe it now... If you shoot at this helicopter; we will kill you. That should be on a banner on the side of the chopper.

Hersh-
My apologies for coming across so offensively. I was responding to a post you made and have since edited, so I cannot repeat your exact words. My interpretation of your post was about how 'disadvantaged' these folks are and how we should all bail them out because it isn't their fault. I also got the impression that you were of the mindset that 'rich' people should be punished for being rich and be forced to pay more taxes to support the 'disadvantaged' poor (who have lots of babies out of wedlock and can't seem to find or hold a job on their own).
But whatever. It seems like whenever I speak up on matters like this, I always seem to offend someone. I make a lousy messenger because I always seem to offend, even when I'm trying to say the same thing as the guy you just agreed with.
Again, my apologies.

CIA's post got me think....It took a while for the smoke to clear and the smoke detector to shut off. It doesn't matter if the person left the area or not all of their stuff would still be gone, so even the stupid should receive some form of help from the country. However those who want to complain about the gov't not coming to their aid when they were in a flooded city, SHUT UP. You were told to leave and you didn't. If you follow the news now it seems very pathetic. The mayor is telling the govoner to help who's saying it's a federal issue so she won't help, but she won't release the Guardmen to the president. It reminds me of when I was a kid and someting broke. Everyone was pointing to the other. The mayor is telling everyone to leave, but he can't get support from the Guardsmen. The governor is saying is ok to stay so the guardmen have to stand by and watch the police try to clear the city. The federal government is using federal troops to pass out food and water and try to repair the levies (they are restricted when enforcing laws). The governor and the mayor need to go into a room and the one who exits standing gets to make the rules.

Haven't come back to the thread for a few days since I have been in transit from the UK to the US by a rather convoluted routing.
Anyway the old laptop has ground into action (Literally) and I can review some of the later posts.
Yes 01 XLT Sport...it seems a little preposterous BUT these words were stated by the students themselves...not reported second hand.
I know you are going to say it might be exagerrated but they seemed articulate, coherent and very upset !!!
Despite what has been written I still stand by original points....those who have simply said..."I would have got out of the place...whatever..."
Did you see how many there were in wheelchairs, disabled etc ?
I think some of you have been....and I repeat it....very insensitive.
It's all very well sitting at home in comfort pontificating....I wonder what you would have done if you had been in the city in circumstances such as those described., with maybe an elderly disabled relative and if you didn't have your own transport.
I think the time has come to end blame and name calling anyway, and let's do something positive to help.
I've come over from the UK...I have to clean up my own property which was damaged by the less severe hurricane that hit South Texas recently then I'll see what more I can do for others.

They, those bright students you speak of, have NO excuse for not leaving except ignorance…

No problem Rocky...
The only post I added anything to on my edit, was to add (In my lifetime) to that one post that I spoke of the same levee system protecting my home of record.
My hometown of Waterproof, LA has flooded two or three times in the 1800's & 1900's by the Mississippi River; but that's when it used to sit on the other side of the levee. On one of a few course changes in the River- most of the towns south of us got flooded. The boat captain saw this guy named Abner- and he said "Well, it looks like you folks over there are waterproof, Abner." And, the name stuck; even though it did get flooded prior to, and since that time.
I didn't want someone to read that and wonder- how is it that the town could have not been flooded by the Mississippi River (Big Muddy) due to the levee, and been flooded in the past. I edited it so everyone could see that it has indeed flooded, just not in my lifetime (36 years).
Jeez-Louise... You must be single with no kids to have to pay like that... That's 30%!!!

Only 50K? I guess I would be considered poverty level. I still haven't reached the 50k mark. I really need to get out of this family buisness and get a job that will get me out of poverty!
I began each day with three paper routes, from 3:30A- 6:00A, from there I went to my full time job managing a warehouse. Twice a month I also ran a food-processing plant. it consisted of 3-4 12h days each time, but for $19/hr I didn't complain. On the weekends I still had my paper route, and was a lumberyard attendant at an old job on saturdays, and then Sunday I maintained my fathers business park grounds (gardening, watering, and leaf-blowing, etc.) So for busting my *** trying to pay off my truck as well as $975 a month rent, I gained a whole lot of nothing. When I walked into my accountants office and he told me I owed and additional $3000 on top of the $12000 I already paid I about flipped my lid. So, the moral of the story is, I quit the paper route, quit the lumberyard, and now have an easy job in front of a computer all day. I will never again bust my *** like that for nothing, and i thought I was doing well, just a bit sleep deprived... At the end of the year I owed money to the gov't, bah.
