Jamz, what has happened to Raoul? Since this thread has turned into a multi purpose thread, I thought this might be a good place to ask.

I miss his tidbits of genius. Plus, without Raoul's posts to incite him, Dzervit has mellowed out too much.

Ah, Yes, my good friend Jim, the owner of the LT and a former Blackwood owner does mungle the English language a bit.

A contribution of my own. I have been trying to deal with this issue by saving a flotsam of reports and articles to my hard drive. I won't take the time to post the links but wildly paraphrase the content in general here. If you want the link, email me.

1, Fema chief waits 5 hours to notify his boss it's time to go.
2. Firefighters languish in Atlanta hotels for days waiting for orders.
3. Sen. Santorum says to penalize non evacuees if they don't leave.
4. Political issues snarl deployment plans. This is a good one.
5. A total of three resumes of Mr. Brown of Fema. The administration one, the Fema one and some sort of national registry of lawyers one.
None are the same and none mention his primary source of employment for the 11 years before he joined the government and from which he was fired.
6. The announcement of Mr. Brown being "relieved of command".
7. Fema seeks to block photos of dead bodies.
8. Use of word "Refugee" offensive to many.
9. Victims to get $2,000 debit cards
10. Navy pilots reprimanded for diverting from supply mission to rescue survivors. One pilot relieved of flying command and given command of the emergency kennel set up to care for pets of personnel deployed to hurricane area.
11. Mama Bush opines that everything is fine in Houston. These people were, well you know, sort of disadvantaged anyway, so they are getting along ok. I assume she means the Astrodome. Poor quote and I see I missed saving it but it was on AP and I did read it.
12. My own words, where is Gen. Honore. The hero of the moment last Thursday was portrayed as a cigar chomping, oath swearing, *** kicking kind of guy that was getting things done. As soon as the Beltway Gang started arriving, he seems to have become a non-person. I have not seen him or his name mentioned since last Thursday. Talk about protecting your turf, Jees.

Ok, my turn to turn on the popcorn machine. After all, I do operate out of a former movie theater that had six of them.

Update to my earlier post:
Fema announced today the ending of the $2,000 debit card program initially announced two days ago. From what I read, about 7,000 such cards will be distributed, only in Texas. A strictly personal observation, but I do not think this was one of Fema's better ideas. The possibilities for fraud would seem to me to be immense and maybe if they cap it at $1.4 million and try something else it would be helpful. And...I do hope they find another solution for all of those who lost everything they had.

Low point for Texas... I can't believe people stooped so low as to "pretend" to be from New Orleans in order to get that debit card...

They should be given first class accomodations in Gatesville or Hunstville, TX for attempted governmental fraud...

I predict that a huge portion of the billions of dollars in aid will be acquired fraudulently. I'd suspect as much as 25%-30% will be stolen.

I watched it here last year. Guys with 16' trailers pulled by an S-10 or similar, stopping at brush piles and picking out long, bushy limbs and carefully stacking them standing upright in the trailer so it appeared they had a load of brush. In actuality they had about 200 lbs of 'fluff', but they got paid for hauling a load of brush to the dump.
