I have seen so many untruths posted in this thread that could not be farther from the facts that I wouldn't know where to start.

Anyway, the only way to force gas prices lower would be to reduce consumption. Plain and simple. If you think Bush had anything to do with gas prices you are sadly mistaken. The industrial revolution of China and other countries on the industrial boom band wagon are directly at fault here. Also blame the increase on all the gas guzzling SUV's and trucks currently on the road.

Wanna do something about i gas prices? Do what I did. Buy a small little used 4 banger for your daily driver. This will be impractical for some of course that use their trucks because they are trucks. But for those driving a big truck because that is what you prefer to drive, just get the little 30-40 mpg 4 banger if you can afford to and you will cut your fuels costs by at least 1/3rd

These kinds of things remind me of some of the mindless people that live in our society. You know the few nut cases, the ones that say they are going to protest something by not eating and purposely starving themselves.

Every time I hear about one of those I wish I was there next to a TV camera and had some interviewer ask me what I think about the situation. My response would be “Let the moron die, if the idiot doesn’t have the sense to realize that what they are doing has no effect on anyone else then we don’t need them in society, clean up the gene pool I always say…”

I THINK THE PRICE OF FUEL SHOULD BE GOVERNMENT REGULATED...

CALL IT COMMUNISM IF IT's WHAT YOU LIKE, I DON'T CARE...

AS LONG AS GAS IS BACK DOWN TO $0.99 A GALLON, I DON'T CARE WHAT THEY CALL IT...

IT COSTS $4 A BARRELL FOR THE OIL TO BE PRODUCED, BUT IT'S NOW OVER 70 A BARREL...

THIS SAND-PAPER CONDOMED BUTT-RAPING HAS GOT TO STOP...

FREE-ENTERPRISE MY @$$... THEY DIDN'T THINK IT WAS FREE ENTERPRISE WHEN AT&T WAS A JUGGERNAUT- IT'S TIME TO KICK BIG OIL IN THE NUTS.....AGAIN. (STANDARD OIL)

Gas is a necessary commodity. Just like grain, etc. We will never be able to "send a message" except the message of we will nerver use it again, or at least not use as much. Most people have no idea how few people control the quantity of gas, diesel and fuel oil(which is the same as diesel, just annointed as fuel oil when it comes off the cracker at the refinery). Back when I worked for a refinery company(mid 70s), there were only 57 refineries in the US and they were owned by about 20 companies. Now, it does not take a genius to realize that it is not hard to control something if there are so few involved.

The government tried to use price controls in 1973 to limit the profits on petroleum products. The things I saw going on with the people running the refineries to skirt the laws was unbelievable. I had to get out of the industry. Some things I saw may not have been technically illigal but it was immoral and it was gouging back then. Not a lot has changed. The control is in the hands of a few wealthy and powerful. So what if we buy less, they will just raise the price and their oil reserves will last that much longer.

It will only be when we do not use it at all, or cut the usage to a painful amount that it will matter to them. And, that ain't gonna happen anytime in our lifetimes. Skipping a buying day will only inconvience ourselves and give them a laugh.
