Florida passed a law some years back that states you can use deadly force to protect your property. It came about after a store owner elecrified an opening where thieves had broke in multiple times. The next thief died. He was arrested for killing the guy. That's when they passed the law. Not sure what happened to the guy, as he killed the guy before the law was passed.
Unfortunately, in MD, just like Vader said, you can't protect your property with deadly force. Just make sure you drag them back in your house and say you feared for your life.

When i moved to Texas I could not believe some of the laws they had regarding property rights and trespassing! Back in Minnesota where I grew up, the law damn near required you to help the thieves load your stuff into their getaway vehicle and offer them a cold drink before they left! I suspect that if they threw out their back loading your TV into their van they could file an injury claim against your homeowner's insurance!

I loved Minnesota, but the obscene level of Liberalism that exists in the state will drive any sane man to leave!

Here is a story I saw on Yahoo about looting in the Big Easy. Here are some quotes from the looters:

One man, who had about 10 pairs of jeans draped over his left arm, was asked if he was salvaging things from his store.

"No," the man shouted, "that's EVERYBODY'S store."

and

"To be honest with you, people who are oppressed all their lives, man, it's an opportunity to get back at society," he said.

Shoot them and hunt down their families, and shoot them too. This would be a better place if this type of mentality was eliminated.

Could have sworn that I replied to this earlier. It's called the 'Castle Doctrine'. IMO Every state should have it on their books.

After you shoot them in your yard, drag 'em back inside and hand 'em a kitchen knife.

Oppressed all their lives... more like, never put in the effort to work their way up the ladder starting at the bottom, the bottom is just too low of a place to start out for some people. Its an opportunity to get back at society, the society that is now gonna come to their aid.

Haven't seen the news. It does not surprise me there is looting going on, but it still really pisses me off!

It's bad enough losing business and property in a hurricane or natural disaster. But then some a-holes start helping themselves to your stuff...that's horrible.

I would love to see the Guard and/or police start shooting looters. But it won't happen. The president, governor and all the other politicians would never have the stones to authorize it, because the media and their political opposition would crucify them.

Wasn't that in the 1997/1998 time frame?
That was one of those Don Johnson epics - Harley Davidson and The Marlboro Man.

Well they did declare martial law down there.... So you can shoot whoever you want basically. I heard yesterday evening there had been a few shootings in downtown. I pray for the best.

Anybody from the midwest want to drive down and do some shopping? There's got to be a 4x4 shop in the area somewhere.
