Angry The "Passing Lane"

I have noticed lately that it seems like more people than usual are getting in the left lane (aka the passing lane) and staying there. Most of them aren't passing anybody or making any real progress, they are just cruising. WTF? I've been able to make much more progress in the far right lane lately. Has anyone else noticed this?

Yeah.. I hate that...

I think they're called "Left-lane Vigilanties" They want to make sure none of us are speeding in the fast lane so they take it up with their buick's or soccer mom minivans and wreak havoc on everyone, cause you know they know what's best for EVERYONE... sometimes I wish I could just bump draft them... then maybe they'd get the message and get out of the way... just my .02

Left Lane bandits are nothing new.

A few of them may have an 'agenda' - trying to slow you down.

IMO, the vast majority of them are just totally oblivious. They have never heard of the concept of slower traffic keep to the right. They think as long as they are going the speed limit or above, they can drive in whichever damn lane they please. Flashing your high beams or tailgating don't work, as they have no idea what a rear view mirror is. Unless you honk or hit them, they don't know you arethere. Honking will rarely make them move over, since they don't think they are doing anything wrong. I've never tried hitting them.

It bothers the crap out of me, but the safest thing to do is wait for a gap in traffic and pass on the right. You may have to wait a long, long time. If you do ever get past, they will still be in the fast lane as they disappear in your rear view mirror.

Write your law makers in your state....
Colorado has passed legislation that forbids travel in the left lane. It is for passing only. If you are a left lane driver, you will get pulled over and ticketed. We have lots of unmarked State Patrol that do a wonderful job at this. Picture pulling a mountain pass at 75mph and some a-hole is going 30 in the left lane. That's just dangerous, as well as taking all traffic down do a slower speed making it tough for loaded trucks to make some of the mountain grades.

Oh yeah, we also have a law so that you can not go below 20mph below the posted speed limits on the highways without flag/chase drivers. It is called impeeding traffic. Unless of course weathwer dictates a slower speed.

Make your states safe....write and petition your law makers for such laws.

First & foremost, both left lane squatting & passing on the right are illegal in NJ.

It's easy & fun to get them to move. You see, here in NJ, road-rage is a game of sorts. Some people think they are good at it but the reality of it is: SIZE MATTERS. You want to be good at it, you got to be packing at least a 5000lb vehicle.

If the idiot is driving a small car, its to easy, I plant the bumper of my 5700lb truck about 18 inches from their rear bumper, start flashing them with my hi-beams & don't move for anything. They slam on the brakes, I slam on the brakes. They speed up, I speed up. If they still won't move, I wait, still only 18" from their bumper, until I can pass, ILLEGALLY, on the right and then cut them off so violently that they have absolutely NO CHOICE But to slam on the brakes or run right into me. I'm talking get my rear bumper about even with their headlights and then swerve into their lane abruptly. The offender usually slams on the brakes, flips me off, flashes their hi-beams, picks up their cell phone attempting to memorize my plate #, etc... Sometimes this makes the idiot move to the right, but not usually. This happens EVERY SINGLE DAY here in NJ.

If the as$hole is driving a larger vehicle then mine then I have to analyze the situation to determine if I can do the same to them. Usually, I can since the average driver is an inept moron.

You can start bashing away saying I'm a danger to those around me... I've NEVER been in an accident or even been issued a single legit (I've been issued some by corrupt d$ck head cops & beat them all in court) ticket for ANYTHING in 17 years of driving. These idiots don't understand the law so I will make their life hell for the 2 or 3 minutes I'm stuck behind them. They had to take the same drivers test I did to get their license so they know the law. They simply choose not to obey it so I have fun making them wish they did.

It's a fun & refreshing way to pass your time on the NJ hi-ways.

LEFT LANE SQUATTERS SUCK BIG FAT D$CKS!!!
NJ *****ING SUCKS DONKEY *****!!!

Left land bandits are the worst drivers on the road. PA also passed a law stating you can not drive in the left lane but, people still do and i have only seen 1 pulled over for it after holding up a line of cars including a cop for over 5 miles.

It seems like the "white taggers" are the worst at doing it. (people from MD)

KC-10 FE,
I also play that "game" when someone is clearly doing it on purpose. I also adjust my speed so as not to let people cut in when waiting in line to exit. This is prolly why i go through a set of brakes a year.

same left lane laws in KY...only passing..and they'll nab ya for it too. Atlanta's solution is to make 8 lanes in each direction, set the speed limit to 50mph standard and sit back and watch.... lane speed accordingly:

far left (carpool lane- avg 85 mph) #7: 95 mph #6: 85-90mph #5 80 #4: 80 #3 70-75 # 2 65-70 #1 usually exit only's 40-60mph

ROFL. Yea, laws really do the trick. Nobody disobeys the speed limit. ROFL. These laws dont do squat for my driving experience here in Colorado. Nobody obeys these laws and I've certainly never heard nor seen them being inforced.

My theory is that they see this nice, wide, unoccupied lane open that they can just cruise along in without ever having to slow down for slower traffic. It is really interesting to them that nobody is going slower than them in that lane. It is the one place on the road they can safely ride along with their head comfortably up their **** and not have to worry about running into anything. It really must be nice and peacefull for them. Meanwhile I am stuck behind them with veins bulging in my forehead, midway into an arguement with my wife about my anger management issues.

I feel like I need to go jump in the pool to cool off just thinking about it!

always feel like trying one of those 'pick maneuvers' in cops..i got the grille guard bump bars, flash the fogs a couple times maybe the horn, then give the bump- press resum accel. be on my merry way! back when i had my jeep and subs etc, put in Ludacris get out tha way... open the windows, turn it up to 50, and 'move -itch, get out the way, get out the way -itch, get out the way' got some fingers for that one...

Next week I will be picking up my bucket truck in Atlanta and driving it back to Orlando. That old GMC 8500 tops out at about 55 mph. When travelling on I-75, I think I should get over in the left lane so I won't be in the way of people getting on or exiting off the interstate. I think it will be much safer for me in the left lane. After all, it's a long drive and it will take me about 8 hours plus stops.

Driving in the cities are much different than driving on the open highway. I can see out on the interstate in the middle of nowhere people should not be driving in the left lane, but in the cities, many times there are left exits or heavily congested intersections or just heavier traffic all together. Just imagine if everyone used the right lane only to drive, traffic backups would be horrible. Most people around here look at the "passing lane" as the "fast lane". If you aren't driving at least 15-20 miles over the speed limit, then you will get ran over. Either that or they will sweep across 2 or 3 other lanes of traffic and just go right on by everyone.
