So what would you have done had you caught them? If they left the seen they probably had a good reason (they were probably wanted for a lot more than a traffic accident) and wouldnt have thought twice about killing you to get away. You have (or in this case your GF has) insurance to cover this type thing. Count yourself lucky you didn't hurt someone acting like Buford T Justice trying to catch the Bandit because if you had your *** would be in a sling for sure.

Sooo you would have shot at a moving vehicle on a public road that at worste was leaving the sceen of an accident??? SMART!!! What would your reason had been...self deffense? They were trying to get away from you, not trying to assault you....on the other hand had they shot you I would see how they could claim self deffense had they shot back. I cant even imagine the list of charges you would have gotten had you shot at them....Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon would have topped the list I am sure.

I am as opposed to gun control as anybody on this earth, but sometimes I have to wonder if just anybody should be allowed to have one....maybe there should be a IQ test to qualify you or something.

According to the California DMV, that plate is indeed registered to a 1991 Mitsubishi 3000GT, VIN# <snip>. It last passed a smog check at a place called Pro Smog in Pomona, CA on 9/14/98 at 1:01 PM. Me thinks it might be someone who moved from California to Houston, and never transferred the plates over to TX plates, which could be the reason for no smog check data from 1998 to present. Also, their plates would be severely expired, unless by some means they were able to get stickers in the mail, although highly unlikely. Thats about all I can do for you. Good luck...

Yes, and it's all public info from http://www.dmv.ca.gov. As I stated previously, good luck.

I have the information that I can give to the investagator that will be assigned to the case soon. The 3000 had a much lower power/weight ratio though. When they ran we didn't have their plate because they began to leave. So I chased them down and yelled the plate # to the voicemail of my girlfriend. Other witnesses had gotten the plate too but, there was no time for me to talk to them it was hit, pull over, got out, checked my girl, they threw it into reverse, I ran and the chase began.

But officer, it's not my fault that the old lady in the Civic had a heart attack and ran into a pedestrian when I swerved in front of her - I was trying to catch the SOB that hit my GF!

It's stupid comments like these that give the gun grabbers all the ammunition they need.

I see what y'all are saying, but I think you're being a little hard on him.

Had she been seriously injured, I'd want the person to pay. He had to at least get the plate number.

Wow, that's a wild imagination you have. I would like to reiterate for the third time, NO ONE was hurt, the license plate number was written down, and the case has been placed in the hands of the police. I would like to thank you for your concern for all of the other drivers. As that the chasiee was infront there is a much higher probobality that their car would be causing the accidents. Many of the other drivers in the area where all of this happened knew what was going on and pulled to the side, one man rolled down his window and was waving me towards the direction of the 3000-GT. I would also like to make an anology; when some one gets shot it is said that they feel no pain, this is due to the rush of adrenaline. In the heat of the moment my adrenaline began going and I just started going and not thinking. Once again, Thank You for your concern.

I really wish that I had a video camera and a camera person. I couldn't have driven and filmed, that would have caused another accident. The car was put in the shop today, they said that it will take 2 and 1/2 weeks to get it back. We have been assigned a investegator who works from the hours of 4AM-1PM. Thank all of you who commented; thank you for the very helpful information, your concerns about my girlfriend's condition, and even those who had not so constructive "negative" criticism, it all helps to reinforce the two heads are better than one quote. In this case it was about 2,000 heads and has been 1,000 times more effective than anything that I could have done on my own. I will keep you all posted on the out come.

Police officers will sometimes abandon high-speed pursuit because by chasing the bad guy, they are in-fact increasing the chances of an innocent getting hurt. Same amount of damage - pursuer or pursuee.

I hear that! And I don't mean to sound overly critical as I would have probably done the same thing. Just wanted to point out that it's difficult, in times of stress, to realize just how easy things can go from bad to worse...

Best of luck, and I hope they get the SOB
