Lets Talk about boats..... (Post pics if you want)
LOL...
Thanks guys I feel some better now.
I'll probably end up doing it myself. I'm either to broke, to cheap to stupid, or all of the above to pay somebody to do it. I'd like to have it done by the 19th. My wife gets her monthly weekend off at that time and we wanted to go camping and boating all weekend if we can. But really really really need it by July 1st.
June 19th gives me 11 days. I get 3 day weekends. Off Fridays Saturdays & Sundays, so that is 3 full days and 8 evenings to get it done by the 19th.
I'm making a "known" parts list now. If you can think of anything that might need to be added please mention it so I can atleast look at it when I get in there. I definatley know that I won't want to have to be pulling this PIB (Pain In the Butt) engine again anytime soon.
Parts:
That's all that I know right now, it seems like more has been mentioned to me that I should either do or look at. But I was feeling overwhelmed. So I was not capable of remembering them at the time.

Parts:
- Engine coupler
- U-joints
- Water Hose
- Gimbal (sp?) bearing
- Bellows (sp?)
- Alignment tool
I'll probably go ahead and do the Trim limiter & Trim sending unit while I'm back there. Since there isn't enough wires left on them to even think about trying to get either one to work right now. Maybe it will be easier to run some new wires throu with the engine moved boward.

I have a friend that has a 1981 21' Baja has a 350 out of a Corvette w/4 brl and I think it's a Jacuzzi jet drive. The impellar is a little wore for wear but it still runs GREAT!!! Handles excellent. I dont know how we have kept from killing each other dragging & whipping each other around the lake on the water toys with it.
I raced him a couple of years ago with the boat that I now own "Back when it ran... err should I say when it would pull it's self and I had borrowed it!" LOL He beat me out of the hole every time but I could catch him and have him passed with in an 1/8 th mile or less. The jet drive kills his top end bad. But he can turn around ALOT sharper than I can even dream about just plain handles better all around. His is the better boat by far to mine. Mines like a bull in the china cabinet compared to his.
HEY!!! Theres me a second set of hands and some knowledge... He pulls his motor out every winter and goes through it. Surely a Jet drive is similar in concept as far as from the transmission forward and how they hook up to the engine... Is it not?

We had the front section off for running around. The vinyl rolls back and gets snapped into the top section, but I think I'll have to stitch on a couple more snaps to hold the rolled part up a little better.
This thing rocks!

Thanks for the tip PSS Mag, that will be alot easier. It is just the center section of the curtain that needs a little more support. I think a strip of velcro on each side of it will do the trick.
There are four zippers on the front section that are re-inforced with velcro, and snap to the front and sides of the consol. The two outside sections are thin enough that the strap works, but the center section is too wide for one strap in the middle. Eventually it will fold out on the sides.
Here's another photo of just after I picked up the boat. My dad was nice enough to let me borrow his '05 Lariat with only 1500 miles on it for the day. What a guy.

No problem...
Well it's raining today.
I dont have a cherry picker tall enough or long enough to get the engine out, so I am using a tree. Guess that makes me a real shade tree mechanic.
But since it's raining I cant do anything today.
I got a hold of my buddy with the Baja he said he could help me but it would be a few weeks before he would have time. Hopefully I will be done with it by then.

Just kidding you..
Bass boats are fast too.. I guess you got to get to the fishing hole before a competetor does.

I'm not big on fishing myself... I go occasionally.. but no one except me in the house likes fish so we'd rather play..
Im with ya man... I love to fish. Just dont have the fishing boat. Got rid of it a couple years ago, and havent got a new one yet. Although it won't be a bass boat. Its gonna be a center console, maybe something like this. But most likely not barand new. Let someone else work out all the bugs first, let it depreciate and then buy it at a good price.
Oh well, maybe someone else will post soon. Cant we resize that picture? Sorry Vegas..but its a PITA to read this thread with that picture here.
PSS...hows it going? any luck getting the motor out yet?

Heres an update.. I worked on it after I got off work tonight untill it got dark on me.
I got the lower unit off no problems. U-joints look fairly new and feel good. So I'm just going to hit them with some grease and if no water comes out of them, then I will leave them for now. I found out that they are not that bad to change anyway. Also the drive shaft looks great (No mars, marks, or scratches). So I'm guessing the Gimbal bearing is still good. So I can save a few bucks now and maybe finance manager (AKA Wife) won't holler as bad if I can. Dive shaft bellow is cracked so I will replace that and the water hose.
I got all of the wires, water line, fuel line, linkages, exhaust, etc. removed from the engine. I (think) all that is left is unbolting it and lifting it out. (I think anyway) I'm sure I missed something and will find it when I go to pull it out..
LOL
Only real obstacle I see so far is some idiot installed ONE Torx head bolt on the bell housing!
Unfortunatly I don't have ANY Torx sockets.
I hate to buy a set
1. Not knowing if it's standard or metric.
2. For one stinking bolt!
So I'm calling anyone and every one that I know that might have a set. No luck so far... Last resort I bought one of those Gator sockets years ago. (suppose to be a miracle socket that fits any size bolt and grabs stripped nut/bolt heads, etc.) I will put it on it and maybe it will work better than it has in the past for me. LOL
I'm going to try and finish getting the engine out tomarow night after work. I will have confirmed part numbers then and can call around on Wednesday to try and find them. Hopefully can find the parts with in an hour drive. Looks like I'll be off most of Thursday and all of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So I can go pick them up Thursday morning. Get them assembled and a friend is coming out Friday with his alignment tool to help put it back in corectly. So it should be back together sometime Friday if all goes well.
Pray for me that the Marine Gods stay with me and watch over me for the next few days.
