Cool chainsaws

i do tree cutting as a hobby...and for the free wood ..what kind of saws do you prefer?...zap!
I didn't want to be a bonehead and derail the 'bonehead' thread so I started a new one.
I've run most of the Stihl and Husky pro models. Right now for ground saws I'm running a Husky 346XP and a 372XP, both have been modified (ported) by a builder in PA. Comparable size Stihl models would be the MS260 and MS440.
My climbing saw is the Stihl MS200T. Nothing else on the market compares for a top handle saw. There are some features I don't like, but nothing else comes close for power.

Sweet!

On a completely unrelated note, I remember reading about how a guy bought a new chainsaw, and in the instructions, in big, bold font it says: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ATTEMPT TO STOP THE CHAIN WITH YOUR HAND.

Well, gee. No kidding.

Ahh, is that a video of Rotax Robert and his Predator? That video has been around for years. If you go digging around over at ArboristSite, you can find the thread Robert started showing pictures of the saw as he built it. Amazing what a good redneck will do in the pursuit of horsepower!

Aww, heck. I dug it up.

Q,

Sometimes the machine is smarter than the person running it. The reason we now have safeguards on so many things, is the absolute stupidity of some people. Ever read the Darwin Awards? Ever wonder why lawn mowers have the stupid bar you have to hold down to get the thing started? Morons! That's why. People just couldn't stop putting their hands under the deck. Then some idiot sues the lawnmower company.

When stupid people and lawyers get together, it's never good for anybody. Too many lawsuits with language similar to: "How was I to know you weren't supposed to do that? It didn't say not to anywhere on the product or in the manual."

I may sound a bit caustic, but I think society would benefit from everyday machines that "remove" stupid, senseless people.

Natural selection at it's finest. You know, there's only one way that stupid warnings get onto products like that, because someone's done it before.

It's about impossible to buy any product nowadays without it having big ugly warning stickers all over it. I put new windows in my house last year and ended up screwing up the finish trying to remove the stupid warning stickers on the screen frames. There were 5 separate warning stickers on each and every window, not counting the installation stickers and brand ID stickers.
A friend said his new King Ranch had 4-5 huge ugly warning stickers in the cab when he bought it. I'm sick and tired of trying to peel off 'stupid stickers' from every product I buy.

I bet they could cut a few tenths off the time to cut that log if their chainsaw had a supercharger on it...

Anyone ever heard of Pioneer chainsaws? I've got a Pioneer 650 that was my Grandfather's. Man that thing is pretty heavy. Made in the early 60's and still runs good.

Get a John Deere. The CS56 Pro-Series is unbeatable. The Husqvarna 55 Rancher has a similar power to weight ratio; but, isn't as well engineered. The John Deere will outlast you.

I think the John Deere chainsaws are made by EFCO in Italy. What are the service and parts like for these chainsaws?

I don't know. I hear it's no trouble getting parts; and, I've never had problems with service. The only thing dad has ever replaced on his are the chains. Same with mine; but, I've only had mine for 5 years. He has one that's 30 years old and has never been apart for anything but cleaning, filter replacement, and chains. It's not as powerful as mine is; but, has been put through everything mine goes through, and more.

In fairness, my Uncle has a Husqvarna that has been through the ringer, as well, and is holding up nicely. It's always burned oil though. It'll choke you to death if you don't take a break now and then. I think that's why he keeps it. He puts away twice as much beer, as dad and I do, in a weekend of cutting.
