What's the "150" then? The original displacement?
The truck was originally the F-100, or half ton (1,000 lbs - just drop an '0')
In the 80s Ford strted beefing up the F-100s and called them F-150 or the 'heavy-half'. Eventually the F-100 was dropped and the F-150 name lived on.
