Might be a stupid question, but what does the "F" in F-150 stand for?

Sorry, I tries to search the threads for it but you can imagine how many results you get by using F-150.

'F' as in 'Eff'-Series.

 

There is one small hole in your statement in that the C series chevys were the 4x2s, and the K series were the 4x4s.

What's the "150" then? The original displacement?

 

I always wondered about that. I think it's just a cool sounding number when you pronounce it. What if they called it the F-134? Doesn't sound right does it? That's problably why they call it the 150. It's an even number.

 

I think it has to do with hauling capacity?
