Bingo !

This is true. I stuck a Lightning engine on my riding mower, along with some Indy 500 slicks, and other assorted goodies that I'm not at liberty to detail, and my 0-60 time is 2.15.

You don't want to know what I can do the quarter mile in.

We drove it on the track at Indy and tried to get it in this years race, but the IRL said "No way . . . you're too fast. It will make us look bad."

Don't believe it? Well then, check it out!

ONLY Lightning’s can run 0 – 60 in under 6 seconds. It don’t matter if any other truck, be it Ford or not can run 0 – 60 in under 60 seconds if it is NOT stock.
Syclone.

Of coarse i read this in a magazine so it might not be true.

true it is a smaller truck, but a regular cab compared to a 4 door truck is the same comparison. both the syclone and the lightning are limited production, no longer in production trucks.

i love the lightning, imo , it is truely the benchmark for any performance truck and a goal for anyone wanting to modify a truck, but it just dosent have a place in a comparison of
of 2005 model, 4 door trucks.

True, there have been some trucks that could perform:

Silverado SS, SC Harley Davidson F-150's, Any Titan, any Hemi Ram, 1990 Chevy 454SS, Dakota V8 (90's) and finally the Dakota SRT..

But- only three real performance trucks:

Syclone- (Car & Driver sucked the doors off a Ferrari 348 TB with this truck circa 1991/1992. Flat smoked it in 0-60 & 1/4 mile with an automatic transmission; but after the 1/4 the GMC was TOAST *aerodynamic penalty*..) They said what prevented this truck, the Regal Grand National and the Anniversary edition Trans Am from being classics, is that GM used the same engine in all three vehicles; although I think the GMC version was pumped to 4.3L instead of the 3.8 that the T/A & GN used.)

AWD made this a real beast. I've read about 4 second 0-60 blasts, and I've read about the 5's. You can take that to the bank because the 3.8L Regal GN (Circa 1986-1987) ran 0-60 in 4.3 seconds in the late 80's... It was the quickest car GM built that year~ yes, even quicker than the Corvette!!!

Either way, a Lightning owner would be unwise to simply assume it would kick this trucks but red-light to red-light. You know what they say about assuming....

Sadly, the Syclone was goverend to 125 MPH, so any edge it may have at the 1/4 on a Lightning would quickly evaporate in the Lightning's 140 MPH top speed.

2.) http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/GMC-Syclone

Lightning: Well, there's no need to put a link here. This is an F-150 Forum, and the Lightning is well known to all who venture here.

Ram SRT-10: Viper Motor, 500 HP, 150 MPH top speed. Nuff said about performance...

Only real mistake on this... Not offering it as an automatic. Offering it as manual only limits the buyers (many people can't drive manual's). You'd see more on the road were it offered with an auto as an option- even if they had to "detune" it a bit.

That is one good point but there are two other mistakes about Dodge offering the manual transmission in the SRT-10. First, it can’t handle the power and burns up clutches quickly. Second, it can’t tow anything basically because that could burn up the clutch.

In conclusion Dodge produced a truck that could take the title of “fastest production truck” away from Ford and they did that. Only problem is they sold the same kind of hype the “hemi” idiots bought into. SRT-10 owners “think” the have the best “performance” truck and sadly they don’t.

They do have the “faster production” truck but it is far from a performance truck that the Lightning is. The Lightning can beat the SRT-10 (stock vs. stock) a good 90% of the time. The Lightning can tow 5,000 lbs and the Lightning is approx. $17,000 less then the SRT-10.

The Lightning will hold its value much better then the SRT-10 will, mark my words on that statement…

Dodge still has a long ways to go to ever have a TRUE “performance” truck capable of competing with the Gen II Lightning, apples to apples, that is no longer in production…

other vehicles only offered with only a manual:

ford gt, viper, zo6 corvette, and supercharged cobra, the 5.4 cobraR,

#1, 2, 3 and 4 of the some of the fastest american made cars.

The Lightning will hold its value much better then the SRT-10 will, mark my words on that statement…
maybe, maybe not, what leads you to that conclusion?

if the muscle car age teaches us anything, it is that the fewer that are mad, the higher the value and that usually the bigger and powerful the engine is, this increases the value. Cars are a bad investment anyway and I hope that those that buy either vehicle do it to enjoy them because it will be a while before the value goes up, look no further than the buick GNX, ZR-1 corvettes, and the plymouth proweler, all are low production cars , none has taken off in value.

also remember that the first year lightning was 360 hp, 3.55 gears and had intercooler problems, the 380 hp, 3.73 gears and the improved intercooler was just right.

although this is a somewhat older thread i think anyone claming a titan is better needs to learn and watch the truth about trucks!!
I drove em both several times several different trims, and i can tell you being 6'2 the ford is way roomier. the nissan is an overpriced tin can that appeals to wannabe's and yuppies. If you use the truck for work, fun, or everyday driving you can't beat the ford. But don't get all snipppy you titan lovers I'm sure in the next few years you can trade in your titan for the then new infinity/titan they are working on for 30 g's more. I mean same truck but with a fancy name,( just like all the import tin cans) go waste your money i'll be driving my crew long after you trade in that one in on whatever fad comes next. And thats the Truth about trucks!
