Road Trip/Conditions Advice
Road Trip/Conditions Advice
I plan on going from SoCal to Gunnison, CO next week. [I15>I70>US50)
I will have a fully loaded F150 (Small V8) with a full shell but I do not have 4x4.
Weather predictions call for snow flurries the day I plan on leaving.
I am not familiar with these roads through UT and CO.
I will have snow chains in case but will that be enough?

Despite the Cali in me, I have alot of experience with mountain snow driving, but I'm not familiar with these particular roads.
Coming to Beautiful Colorado I see. I wouldnt be too worried about the flurries we've been having lately. When are you leaving? My girlfriend is going to be up in Delta, CO next week so I might be able to give you info on the weather in that part of CO. I'll be up there myself next Friday.

Plan on leaving very early Saturday morning. (26th) We figure it's late enough in the season but I want to be sure. We'll have everything we own and a couple cats.
Any updates would be MUCHO appreciated.
All I'd be able to tell you is the road conditions near your destination. I dont know how much that would help but I could provide the intel nonetheless.

If conditions get very icy you just have to make sure you don't do anything too quickly. You don't just take your foot off the gas. You taper off so you don't break traction. Allow lots of room to stop. If not for yourself, for the guy redecorating your back end. I doubt conditions could get that bad, could they?
On ice I kick it in neutral when I let off the gas or stop (Automatic) or Hit the clutch (Standard). Releases the torque on the tires so that you don't slide... (unless you try to hit the brakes LOL)

When a snow storm in the Colorado Rockies can easily amount to well over 10 ft, I'd be leary of the word flurries, too.

Thanks UrbanCowboy - All "intel" appreciated.

At the end of March?
I was shut down in Flagstaff, AZ at the beginning of April because the pass was snowed in on the way over the mountains into Bakersfield, CA. When the roads were finally opened back up there were 20+ ft. snow drifts that had been carved through with snow blowers. When I got to Bakersfield, on the other side, the grass was so green you would have sworn it was mid-spring and you dreamed the snow alltogether.
