Not trying to derail the thread but here's a bit of my local history just for Kobiashi

3 miles from my house, the remains of a Roman Fort circa 44 A.D.

Part of the Town Wall fortifications in Gt Yarmouth (my home town)
Built in 1261 and contains 16 Towers

The Parish Church in Gt Yarmouth.
You can't see it in this picture but half way up the tower, the shape of the windows change from Saxon to Norman architecture style. That would be 1066 A.D.

Unfortunately, many old buildings in the town were destroyed during WW2 in the bombing raids by the Luftwaffe.
Gt Yarmouth had a very medieval look to it prior to the war. The town was built in narrow rows. If you have seen the film "Shakespeare in Love" then picture that.
Sadly, this kind of thing does not stand up to a 3 year campain of aerial firebombing and only a few exist now.

Wow that so amazing that you live so close to all of that! On the flip side it is also very sad that such beautiful architecture has been distroyed.

Wow Adam!

All of that in Houston?!?!?!?!

Guess the Normans wiped out the Saxons in that great south-east migration from Dallas . . . .

Thanx for the pix. That kind of stuff is so cool. The oldest thing in Kalifornia is some old adobe hut that northern migrating Mexicans built in the 18th century. Other than that, everything around here is mini-malls and parking lots. Not very inspiring.

I lived in Banbury in England, The is Broughton castle built in the 1300's.

And there are Rollright stones dating back to 3000BC.

I used to go there as a kid and the stories about them use to scare me.

CJ,
I don't think they are lying. There are valid arguements in both camps.
Yes, it appears the climate is warming up but are scientists making a theory to fit the facts?

They used to think the earth was flat and the sun revolved around it because that's what you could observe.

The whole subject needs more study before making knee jerk reactions.

Apart from that, post some pictures of great Dutch architecture for the colonials on the board
