End of the world . . .

Well, there is only one reasonable way into and out of Malibu . . . .

for those of you familiar with the area:

first Topanga had had it's rock slide which produced this boulder

That was over a month ago and it caused so much damage that Topanga is still closed except for a few hours each day.

That doesn't matter any more as PCH is now cosed due to hillside collaspe from Topanga onward....

Malibu Canyon is now closed due to hillside collaspe:

which leaves only Kanan Dume Rd. the only way in or out (and that might collaspe tonight)
(You cold take PCH to Oxnard and around, but that would take a good half day. The only other routes (Decker Cyn and Old Mullholland are iffy and close every so often)

To give you an idea how much it's raining, check out this sink hole in the valley (not real close to here, probably about 30 miles away, but it's the same rain we've been getting:

We've now reached the fourth highest rainfall amount in recorded history and they figure we make break the all time record. Right now we're at 33 inches. Never seen anything quite like it.

If you all never hear from me again it means we were tarpped and ran out of food.

Damn...I knew I should have bought that Range Rover!

And you'd probably make it too, but what with rocks falling all over the place, and the fact that that little slide ain't all that stable, just keep in mind that the other side of that retaining railing is a drop straight down of many hundreds of feet.

other fun:

This is the Hollywood Freeway last night (near Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood) it turned into a river

and this is a house in Studio City (near where I used to live a few years ago)
where the hillside collapsed and the house broke up and started sliding down the hill. There are a lot of hills here and houses built in all kinds of precarious places on the hillsides, some of them hanging over cliffs supported by nothing more than stilts shoved into the hillside. This year with all the rain we've got houses sliding down hillsides everywhere!!!!

CJ,

I don't think anybody said the climate wasn't changing, the "discussion" has been as to whether the change is man made or influenced.
As pointed out (by Burt I think) accurate records have only been kept comparitively recently.
However, for those of us countries with historical reference, the Romans grew vineyards in Britain in 44 A.D. in quite Northern latitudes, something which would be impossible now because it is too cold.
At the same time, the area where I live (Gt Yarmouth) was underwater so the North Sea must have been higher.
Was it the same in Holland too? You have the same elevation as we do and only 150km apart.
In Britain during the 17th century, it was cold enough for the river Thames to freeze all winter. This never happens now.

Anyway, all of this was pre industrialisation and could not have been affected by man.
Maybe, and just maybe, what we see today is part of the same pattern.

HA . . . this made me laugh.

That's the one thing I love when I visit France. There are actually buildings older than 50 years, and not everything looks like this:

We're coming out of an ice age kids . . . this stuff will happen. It's all cyclical.
