I actually live with my Mom. Shes 65 years old(not that, thats real old) but after my dad passed away a few years ago she has a hard time being by herself. The rest of my family all live up north, It just happened that I was living here when my dad got sick and I lost him. I actually did move away for about 6 months after that but it was bad timing. So, Im not sure I could ever move that far away and leave mom here by herself.

I can respect that.

Maybe your place in life right now is right where you are.

BUT...something has GOT to give with your job. What about your buddies? Do any of them have jobs that you like...or THINK you may like?

What is the first thing you think of in the morning when you get up and get going? After thinking of sex, pissing and that first cup of coffee of course. Where would you like to go first thing in the morning? What do you do on Saturdays?

I always think of ranching. Call me crazy, but I think it'd be cool to get up at 4:00 am and have a whole herd waiting on me.

It may sound nuts, but go with it...keep a pad of paper and a pen on your night stand. When you wake up at 2am, what are you thinking of? No matter how dumb it sounds, write it down and atleast give it a decent chance/look. You might surprise yourself.

I don't think I can add to the advice that TUFF is giving you. Good job TUFF! If you can't afford to quit while looking for another job then it sounds like you'll have to make do until something else comes along. Changing careers can be intimidating. My husband is looking at retiring from the military in a year or so and we started to prepare for it a few months ago, not sure we will even be ready when the time comes, it's scary. He is also having difficulty trying to decide what to do with the rest of his life. Remember, unless you get into something that requires extensive or expensive training you can always try something else if that doesn't turn out to be something you enjoy. No law says you can't change career tracks several times in a lifetime.

Good luck and let us know what you end up doing. We'll be pulling for you.

Thanks guys and gals, I appreciate all the encouraging words and advice. Wow TUFF..we must think alike. Ive always wanted to own a farm. I had some animals when I was a kid but nothing major. I guess I have a lot of thinking and figuring out to do. Hopefully something will give soon and I will be on my way to a new job.

What about owning your own shop? Sell parts and used boats on a small scale. Boat storage is a great business. I grew up at my parents marina till is was 25. I know how the business is. I do know that boat storage is a great business to be in. In the winter my parents store over 250 boats. At $400 a boat that is great money. You have the truck to do boat pick up and drop off. Plus some time over the winter some boats go wrong mechanically, so you can charge your own shop rate to fix it! And since you sell parts you can get the part and make money off the part(s) and on your shop rate plus you made money on the boat storage.

Get a small business loan and put up a few boat storage units and buy 3 or 4 acres of land your good to go.

The best part is you are your own boss!
