Damn dude. I came this close to law enforcement. BUT I changed my mind one day (thats another story). So I joined the Marine Corps....ended up in the same situation as you.
I have always wondered what it would be like to be in law enforcement. Thanks for the heads up.

1depd....I hear ya man. I was in the military for 6 years and decided to get out. I worked weapons systems on bombers, so I didnt really see a need for that in the real world. I couldnt cross train at that time so figured it was time to go. Im tired of working BS jobs for BS money. I know there has to be something out there I can do that will make me happy and allow me to earn a descent living. I dont need to be a millionaire, but it would be nice to get payed for my experience, the work I do and for a job well done. I guess theres so many people unemployed, that if I go, they can just hire the next guy in line. I just wish I had a better idea of what I want to do when I grow up!! Guess I'll look thru the "what do you do for a living" thread here and see if anything looks interesting to me. Ive been thinking of some sort of internet store but im not sure how it would do.
*sigh*
*sigh*
I'm just tired of it. A guy I work with just received a job offer to manage a CVS at a substantial pay raise. He turned it down flat. Said there was too much stress in the corporate world and too much uncompensated overtime.
a CVS..like the drug store CVS?? how hard could that be. If the pay is good then you dont mind doing the overtime. But in my case the pay is substandard and the overtime is crazy. Late nights and early mornings with no compensation for it. Oh well, my boss did let me go home early two weeks ago when I was sick. He said I had plenty of overtime to make up for it and he wanted me to get some rest. I thought he was being nice, but then told me that he and the rest of the management and the entire sales team were going to Fl. for the next 5 days and he needed me here. I was the only one he could count on. ...Nice guy, right!
I got it.
Lets all win the lotto and head for the beach.

Lets get this started.
So, BREWDUDE, what are your interests?
What would you like to do?
I wanna be a Game Warden or pro fisherman.

jamzwayne...believe it or not, before I took this job I was looking into trying to become a game warden. But, this job showed up and here I am. I like to fish, I like the internet, I like beer ( I even brew my own, hence the name) I was thinking mabye an online tackle store. Something I could start in my spare time and see how it goes. I was also thinking of a chat forum similar to this one geared towards fishing. I have put some thought into it but dont know where to start, how much it would cost me to get up and running and if it would really make me any money? How does that work? Does the owner of this site make any money?
I thought of postal work, I mean I have the military background so that should help at least a little in trying to land a gov. job. When I was looking for work just before I took this job, I looked all over, and looked at different options. Just never found anything real appealing to me just yet. AHHH...Im so confused. I hate being miserable.

hmm
basically, you have to find what would make you happy. Once you find that..your good to go.
Your like me. You like to fish, the net, and beer. How about starting your own business.
There is a BASS Pro Shop in the Dallas area....you could look into something like that. Well, not on that scale, cause it's freakin HUGE, but you get the picture. You could have your own website that you'd admin. Maybe even get your brew in stores.

What about a Outdoor store (hunting and Fishing) plus a place to buy brew your own beer?? idea. Beer and fishing go hand and hand! I would like to have my own business that sells 4X4 trucks and ATV's. Or become a custom boat maker. My parents have the boat molds from STV.
Artic Cat... There have been a few "brew your own" stores around here and they all failed after a few short years. I guess the demand isnt great enough for it. Im not to sure what boat modls the STV are but if its a decent boat and you have the means, I would deff. persue that. Custom boats are awesome. I wish I could do it on a small scale and make only a handfull each year. But they would be awesome and 100% when they were done. I looked into a basspro shops a few years ago, but unfortunaltely I dodnt have the money or the backing it takes to take on such a project. I thought of a small bait and tackle store as well, but here in my little part of the world they are a dime a dozen. this is a huge fishing community, which over the years has produced a million little mom and pop stores. And to top it off, I just seen a sign go up in the new shopping plaza down the street for a Boaters World store opening soon. The more I think about things I wonderr if I should try to do an online store of some sort and keep my day job. I guess its time to do some major research.
Nope, web sites like this do not make money. I am half owner of Motorcyclecity.com and the little revenue that gets generated pays the server fee's and buys programs. Unless you have a site full of pop up ads, then you can make a little off of them, but you run people off with the ads. People used to get domains and then sale them for big money, but that is a thing of the past as well.
Places like Cabela's, Bass Pro, etc. would kill you on online tackle sales IMO. Unless you are making your own lure's and they become the next big fad.
Game Warden I would think is a great job. You get to find all the hot spots for fishing and hunting and then on your day off, go right to them. Not much money there, even less than LE I believe.
But if you love it, screw the money. I would rather die broke and happy than rich and miserable any day!
LE does have it's moments. All the paper work, court, meetings, training, etc. never stops. I too get tired of arresting the same ole people every week and next month they miss court, we then have to pick them up again on a warrant, they sit in jail until the next court date, they pay their fine, get released the next day and within a few days the cycle starts all over. Also, in a small town, the magistrates are like finance companies, pay me a little tonight and go on the payment plan until your miserable fine is paid. It gets old, but it is still better than being in cube hell IMO!
Plus p/t, I work when I want to, for as long as I want, and when I want!

What are your interests? Other then fishing. Have you thought about being tech rep for something like Mercury Marine or Johnson or Evinrude? They have a pretty cool job some traveling and visiting other marina's drving their problems and trying to find whats wrong. I would love to be a District Sales Rep for Honda or Yamaha, Polaris, Arctic Cat etc.
ARTIC CAT... I have given that some thought as well and I am still looking into it. Im so mad, because a few years ago Mercury had the Tech Rep. position open for the NJ area. It would have been perfect for me. I sat on it because at that time my job was great and had no idea 2 years later I would be leaving it. So needless to say, a guy I know sold his marina and took the job with Merc. Im a fully certified Mercury and Honda Tech. I was fully certified with Johnson/Evinrude but that lapsed since I worked at a dealership that didnt deal with them. Plus I have a lot of Yamaha experience, so as far as being qualified for a position, I think im there. Now I just need to find one open in this area.
Where have I heard this story before?
Just kidding man, I feel your pain.
Someone said be ready for a pay cut...that's true in most cases. Just be prepared to take a pay cut, then, if you don't have to, that's just gravy.
Someone else mentioned that it is easier to find a job while you still have one. I have had that pounded into my head for a while, but I don't think that applies to everyone. If you're miserable, GTF OUT! If you can show up and be a warm body in a chair at your current job until you find something else, go for it. People may say that is unethical...F-'em...it's your life, and you aren't going to milk the system too long.
I think that there is no better motivator for finding a new job than not having one. It's cool for a little while, actually awesome, but you realize how sorry you can become and it motivates you (ME).
I say take a week to yourself, bud. Get out, get away, go camping, do something for yourself, and do it alone. Clear your head of all of the petty crap and ask yourself what you want to do. Take a pencil and a notebook with you...just start writing...talk outloud to yourself.
Call me crazy (most people do), but this worked for me, and I am LOVING it right now.
Plus, once I get assigned to a station, I have something else lined up for making money. The firefighter position is something I have always wanted to do. I may do it for a year, I may do it for 30 years.
Some people say that you have to have a 3, 5, 10 and 25 year plan...F-that! Concentrate on now...the future will work itself out.
~EDIT~
Take this how you want. What works for one man may not always work for another. HELL, come spend a few days down beer, I mean HERE, in the ATL!

Thanks TUFF..nothing like hearing it right from the horses mouth (since you just went thru it) In my situation I have to work while I look for another job. I did the whole 2 months off this past summer when I left my last job. Now im paying for that. I finally got caught up on all my bills and have my life back in some sort of order. But I couldnt afford another month or two off with no pay. I personally think its bad that in the last year, I left one job, got another, which I thought was my dream job and now im ready to leave it as well. Should I just get out of the busines all together or try something else in the same bus. Im thinking out loud here but it sucks to be in this situation. I wish I could just move to another town or state and just start fresh ya know. Well if theres anymore ideas or suggestions out ther please let me know. Thanks guys!!
EDIT...if I make it down that way I will deff. look you up so you can buy me a beer or two or.....
