Why are tow hooks only on the front?

really now. A serious off roader would have a front mounted winch right? So this means that the front hooks are for another vehicle to tow the truck out of the muck.

So which truck made it further than the F150 that it is in a position to tow the truck out?

Now before you debunk the theories, just think of it from a marketing point-of-view. If there were tow hooks in the back as well, that would be Ford telling everyone that they can making further down the trail.

Thoughts?

I have one of these, got it at NorthernTool for $25.
It is the only hook I have I don't have front hooks.
Front hooks reflect a defeatest attitude.

We have those on all the trucks where I work. I've had to be pulled out by one of them once.

Quite correct. That way as you are pulling him out, you can look in his face and laugh like hell.

j-150...i dont think you put much though into this at all.....just because a ( as you put it ) serious off-roader would have a front mounted winch doesent mean that front tow hooks are only for getting your truck pulled out....what kind of half a$$ed logic is that? I have pulled plenty of people out useing my front tow hooks. Sometimes it is just convient because you are already facing them them with your truck. What if you were in a really tight trail, why bother turning around just so you can pull them out with your hitch? I dont beleive that ford is trying to make a statment with its use/non use of tow hooks that ford trucks can get further down the trail or not. They are simply trying to make the truck as usefull and applicable to as many potential situations as posible.

Ummm...the reason the tow hooks are on the front is because it forces you to use the lowest possible gearing to pull someone out. Reverse is only one gear, reverse in 4low makes for an awsome tug.

I have one of those too, great concept.

J-150, I take it you are just having fun with this, but the answer is simple. In the back you have the hitch, which has many possibilities. In the front you need something, so the tow hooks are provided.

Remember, he who plays in the mud will one day get stuck in it.

WOW!!!!!

All of my recovery straps fit on my tow ball......

I don't get it. It must be one of those Soprano tow hooks. I fear sliding off my bumper with just the tow ball. Imagine what damage a hook would do......

Actually the hook wasn't for towing distressed vehicles.
It was part of my 'Poor Man's' winch system.
After Hurricaine Isabel I had 21 very large hardwood down in my yard. They were a tangled mess over twenty feet high. To secure/move and otherwise manipulate the material I used this:

plus plus lots of this
