Anyone miss the NHL yet??

Do I ever miss hockey. Oh may lord. Saturday nights just arn't the same. Not that I need a reason to drink beer but hockey and beer go hand and hand. Think this was the year that the Senators were going to take the cup.

I sure hope this stupid stike ends soon. I hate it when people argue over money when they are getting
paid to play a game.

AHL, its not the same but it satisfies the hockey fix. Cheaper ticket prices too. Hockey is waning in popularity anyways down in the states, a long strike is going to kill the sport.

I miss the NHL, they finally had the Sabres back on the right track after the bankrupcy. We are lucky to have an AHL team here in Rochester, they even managed to draw 18,000 when they played a game in Buffalo so there are people who miss hockey. I've always liked the AHL, more fighting. I hope this strike does not kill the NHL but I have to say that I think a salary cap is inevitable, it protects against geedy players and stupid owwners. It's just a matter of how much damage they do to ther sport before they finally cave in.

They're not playing hockey this year?

I hadn't noticed.

What about baseball? Did they do that "World Cup" thingy?

Talk about two ho-hum sports.... I'd rather watch tennis- or golf.

I go to a lot of Devils games every year, and I have friends with "Plans", and I have to say that none of us really miss it. We are saving some serious money though. Maybe I'll miss it more now that football is winding down.

Hockey is the greatest sport going! NFL is cool too (Go Jets!!) . Base ball is like watching paint dry. Hockey is fast pace the game that never stops. There are no wimps in hockey.

No Wings is killing downtown Detroit. In the grand scheme of things, not many people really miss it other than the original six cities. I think its amusing as time goes on people are starting to support the players... morons. So they offered to take a paycut... they'll all have it back in 2 years w/o a cap. I think it's kinda cool the owners are standing firm, even if it means no hockey this year.

It reminds me of the great Detroit News/Free press newspaper strike... thousands of union idiots walked off their cushy jobs cuz they wanted more money. Management said F you and found out they could run the paper by themselves... D'oh!! I chuckle every time I see a 'No scap newspapers' bumpersticker or lawn sign (yes, they are still out there). Idiots.

It depends on where you are if people miss hockey. I'm sure all those "warm" cities where the fans only jump on the band wagon when their "big market" mercenary team (plundered no doubt from a smaller city that loved its team even when they lost) wins (and spends) big, don't miss it at all. Up in the Northeast and the Northwest I'm sure it's missed. When football ends it will be missed more, then there is just the NBA to watch and we know how exciting those clowns are these days. At least college basketball is still a decent product.

The Only thing better than drinking beer and watching hockey is drinking beer and Playing hockey. I played regularly most of my life until my disability. It keeps nipping at me wanting me to come back, Doctors and my Girl refuse to let me--that makes me want to play again even more.

Pro Hockey players are the toughest of all professional athletes. The beating they endure over a season is just ridiculous. They are the most underpaid of all athletes.

Hockey is stuck in a catch 22--It doesn't get TV time cause it's not popular. It would be a lot more popular if it got more tv time.

Did any one watch the World Jr Hockey tourney? That was a good tournment! I don't know why the USA played so crappy this year? You guys normally have a good team? Russia played a dirty tournment as always.

CP) - It's official. There's nothing to talk about in the NHL labour dispute.

Citing a lack of developments in the lockout, the NHL called off a planned board of governors meeting in New York next Friday.
IMO. I feel bad for the players who just want to play the game, and also for the ones going for some milestone records. I am not sure how many players are really behind the union. I find it hard to feel bad for the guys that are making millions a year and crying for more. The NHL doesn't generate revenue like other major sports. TV deal is a big factor. Their last TV deal was pitiful. I heard that Arena Football draw more of an audience than the Stanley Cup Finals last year. It's just not that popular. So where does the Players union get off with their demands? This is a business and the owners are there to make money as the players are. I know the owners are to blame as well because they are the ones offering the high salaries. Other sports have salary caps. Big deal. Of course, I don't know every detail of what's going on, I am JAFO. <rant off>
