Entitlement mentality???
Entitlement mentality???
Love him or loathe him, he nailed this one right on the
head............
By Rush Limbaugh:
I think the vast differences in compensation between victims of the September 11 casualty and those who die serving our country in Uniform are profound.
No one is really talking about it either, because you just don't criticize anything having to do with September 11.
Well, I can't let the numbers pass by because it says something really disturbing about the entitlement mentality of this country. If you lost a family member in the September 11 attack, you're going to get an average of $1,185,000. The range is a minimum guarantee of $250,000, all the way up to $4.7 million.
If you are a surviving family member of an American soldier killed in
action, the first check you get is a $6,000 direct death benefit, half
of which is taxable.
Next, you get $1,750 for burial costs. If you are the surviving spouse,
you get $833 a month until you remarry. And there's a payment of $211
per month for each child under 18. When the child hits 18, those payments
come to a screeching halt.
Keep in mind that some of the people who are getting an average of
$1.185 million up to $47 million are complaining that it's not enough. Their
deaths were tragic, but for most, they were simply in the wrong place at
the wrong time. Soldiers put themselves in harms way FOR ALL OF US, and they and their families know the dangers!
We also learned over the weekend that some of the victims from the
Oklahoma City bombing have started an organization asking for the same
deal that the September 11 families are getting. In addition to that,
some of the families of those bombed in the embassies are now asking
for compensation as well..
You see where this is going, don't you? Folks, this is part and parcel
of over 50 years of entitlement politics in this country. It's just really
sad. Every time a pay raise comes up for the military, they usually
receive next to nothing of a raise. Now the green machine is in combat
in the Middle East while their families have to survive on food stamps and live in low-rent housing. Make sense?
However, our own U.S. Congress voted themselves a raise. Many of you
don't know that they only have to be in Congress one time to receive a
pension that is more than $15,000 per month. And most are now equal to
being millionaires plus. They do not receive Social Security on retirement
because they didn't have to pay into the system.
If some of the military people stay in for 20 years and get out as an
E-7, they may receive a pension of $1,000 per month, and the very people
who placed them in harm's way receives a pension of $15,000 per month.
I would like to see our elected officials pick up a weapon and join
ranks
before they start cutting out benefits and lowering pay for our sons
and
daughters who are now fighting.

This would make sense if these payments came from seized Al Qaeda assets, but I'm guessing that's not the case. So instead the US Taxpayer is supposed to compensate families for loved ones lost in a tragic event. How is it that you or I have ANY liability in this case?!?!?
The rest of us are at fault simply because we work for our money and weren't affected by that particular tragedy. So the Socialist thinking dictates that the rest of us should be taxed in order to give our money to those affected by the tragedy.
The funny thing is that there are lots of voluntary charity organizations and they move billions of dollars a year to aid those in need. For some reason some people think the government is supposed to take the charity concept and make it mandatory. I believe I should be able to decide what charitable organizations get my dollars. I would be willing to give much more if I wasn't already paying so much with inefficient tax dollars.

means I was being sarcastic.
Interesting story about Davey Crockett.
During that time his economic mindset was the rule rather than the exception.
He served during the Andrew Jackson Administration and Jackson was famous for Wiping Out the National Debt., one of his stated goals.
With our debt at 7 trillion these are staggering numbers:
Jackson served two terms.
When he took Office in 1829 the National Debt was 48 Million.
By 1836 the National Debt was $35 Thousand Dollars.
(That's a 3, a 5, and three zeros)
When he left Office in 1837 the Debt was back up to 3 Million.

Entitlement Mentality. Yes, you're right. There's a whole bunch of folks who believe they deserve something for doing nothing. Like the owners of the twin towers were responsible for 9/11.
I'm not saying that those who lost loved ones during that tragic event are not entitled to sympathy and assistance. But I do not understand how their loss can be any greater than the loved ones who die or are injured for our country.
I think the problems are, in part, due to legal eagles who know they will make a bunch by promoting lawsuits. How can you lose? Wave the flag, cry with the clients, ignore the soldiers and prepare your wallet for a large influx of cash.
Sorry, I get carried away...

The biggest reason we have a “National Debt” of any kind is due in part to our socialist society, Social Security payments to those that should NOT ever get a penny (i.e. drug addicts, alcoholics etc), Welfare recipients receiving money for being lazy worthless people, receiving twice the amount of money then should be allowed to buy choice cut steaks, and other brand name food.
If someone was REALLY serious about reducing the National Debt they would gut every single social program there is with the exception of OLD people of the proper age of receiving their retirement payments they had been promised.
Stop paying out all the BS and we can cut taxes again by some where in the neighborhood of 20%...
”The truth is some people DON’T like the truth…”
As for the victims of 9/11 my heart truly goes out to them but NO PERSON should have been allowed to receive more then the $100,000 max that a military person’s spouse would have been entitled to.
Though many charities collected a ton of cash that afforded HUGE payouts they should have NOT been allowed to exceed a limit of $100,000 the rest of the money could have been kept in the charities banks for future use or we could have used it to fund more security for future terrorist attacks.
But the point is right on the money. This country is an entitlement country for TWO reasons, liberals and lawyers…
