Here's a story. Thursday at about 1:45 am while headed home on a two lane highway, I was being passed by an oncoming tractor trailer and so I was looking down into the road to avoid the head light glare. Noticed a bunch of parts and dirt all over the roadway and then caught a glimpse of red out in the trees on my right. Turned around and put my spot light on what was left of a Dodge pickup. For some reason he had crossed the road and traveled through the grass shoulder for about 300 feet when he came upon a driveway with a concrete pipe under it in the curve. The truck did 3 rolls on it's side and then 2 end over ends coming to rest in trees. Driver had walked away as I discovered from a home owner down the street where he had knocked on the door willing to pay someone to drive him home. Amazing how drunks can survive the worst crashes. With all the blood however, I am sure he had more than a hangover yesterday. Multiple bottles of liquor about the crash site.
Moral of todays story, please do not drink and drive!

A few years ago there was a story on the front page of the paper about how some drunken fool fell off the 17th story balcony in Toronto.
He fell on top of a bunch of pine trees, cushioned his fall onto the waiting wet grass below.

He was released from hospital 4 hours after the accident with minors cuts, scrapes and bruises, and a sprained ankle, no broken bones.

The paper reported that he walked out of the hospital himself and got into a waiting taxi.

Apparently he had very little recollection of the events the following day.

Then there's a guy like me who will slip in my own drivewway one day and die from a broken neck, LOL

... but, if you're going to crash, being drunk or asleep may improve your likelyhood of walking away relatively unharmed.

Before I was a cop I caught shoplifters for a living. Best on ever...a lady pushing a stroller with a midget in it. The lady would hold up a sweater or something to block the cameras and the midget in the stroller would take stuff off the bottom racks and stuff in in the bottom of the stroller.

There was an officer in my department who was transporting someone on a civil commitment. Meaning they did not necessarily break a law, but have court ordered in-patient treatment. On this type of transport we do not use any type of restraints. On the way to the treatment center the woman in the back was bothering the officer to stop for a cigarette before she is admitted. Of course the answer is no. Its still a mystery, but somehow she got out of the transport vehicle, but she jumped out at a stop light and disapeared. About 20 minutes later, the local taxi service was calling the jail wondering who is going to pay her fare. You guessed it, she went out to get cigarettes, choked a few down, then called a taxi for a ride back to jail.

A buddy at worked locked up a drunk for DWI. He was handcuffed behind his back (double locked) seated in the back of a transport car, and seatbelted in. While my buddy was searching the vehicle, the double jointed drunk stretched his hands under his feet, undid the seatbelt, opened the malfunctioning door on the car, and walked away. Ten minutes later I see the guy walking around in handcuffs and gave chase. He climbed over a 10 foot fence with barb wire on top that I tried unsuccessfully to climb over, (while still handcuffed) only to find that he was trapped in a 10x10 patio and a half dozen cops. I decided to wait for some bolt cutters rather then donate more blood to the barbs and give more ammo to my co-workers to use against me. I still don't hear the end of it from them.

I had the pleasure of witnessing my buddy get nailed for DUI. He called me up a 2 in the morning one night to pull his car out of a ditch. Didn't really want to get involved, but He's been my best friend since Kindergarten...what can I say except 'ok, I'll be there in ten minutes". I no sooner pull up to his car, when another set of headlights comes up the road. It's the Police, of course. He gets out, and comes over to me and asks what's going on. I (like always when dealing with police) respectfully told the truth and said I just got here 10 seconds ago; my buddy called me up to pull him out of the ditch. So then the officer asked my pal what happened, and he explained the accident. Now I figured he'd been drinking, but I had no idea how much.
After making sure he and the girl he was with were both unhurt, He asked for his driver's license. Both the officer and I shared an audible chuckle when my friend handed him his American Express card. right after that, I was told in not so many words to get the heck out of there.

The American Express card-- don't drive drunk without it...

After a night of partying, my brother (who is 16) was on his way home. He pulled over on a major highway to vomit. Needless to say this attracted attention and a state patrol officer arrived shortly. While on the way to the county jail, he threw up in the back seat.

He had the following charges:

minor consumption
No valid DL
DUI - refusal of test
violation of our state's "Not a Drop" law for minors behind the wheel

Of course he plead guilty to the "Not a Drop" and the rest of the charges where dismissed.

I had found this weapons warehouse unlocked. Of course I called for backup and a K-9 unit to clear the building. Me and the backup waited outside while the K-9 and handler went in to clear the building. When clearing buildings it was standard to let the dog off leash. After a few minutes we hear over the radio that the K-9 handler was challenging someone. Now everyone gets real quite and waited. After a few more minutes dispatch calls over the radio to check the K-9 status, which met with no reply. After doing htis about 2-3 times me and my partner decided to just go inside the door to see if we could see anything. As we got closer to the door all of a sudden the K-9 with handler on leash comes walking out with a red face and this big grin.

It turned out the dog had allerted on an ice machine and the handler was challengeing the machine. He said the tray turning over squeeked and sounded like someone getting up out of a chair, and the ice falling sounded like someone walking away.

Lol....so I stopped this lady for DUI quite a few years ago. She was so drunk she couldn't hardly stand up and ended up blowing a .250 or something like that. Anyway we had just got those new fangled in car audio/video cameras, which captured the whole thing. This lady tried "everything" to get out of the mess she was in....she kept offering to do just about every sexual thing you can think of, kept grabbing at my crotch, actually pulled up her shirt at one point (her back was to the camera), she even touched herself on her cown crotch (with all appropriate comments and offers) it was hilarious...OK now the funny part.....Once this lady, who turned out to be the head nurse(no pun intended) at an ER of a nearby big hospital, got to court she decides she can represent herself....hahahah....She brings all kinds of character witnesses to the trial. Of course she didn't know jack about the court rules ect...especially the one about "discovery" which would have allowed her to see the video before court.....anyone guess what happened yet??? The prosecutor shows the video in court.....me, the prosecutor, the JUDGE, and everyone else could hardly control our laughs as she watched herself do all that stuff on TV with all her "character witnesses" watching.........turns out they were co-workers, doctors, the hospital ER administrator...and her HUSBAND...hahahahaha....that was agreat day

On a more serious side.....I've taken too many dead people out of cars from DUI accidents...please don't drink and drive and don't let your friends do it either. Thanks bros

I couldn't agree more...Unfortunately, I have little control over my 30 year old friends when I'm not even within 20 miles of them. I only wish I could have stopped some of my friends from doing it. I've lost some good friends from it as well. Some folks just don't get the hint till it's too late

Lol 1depd.....that reminds me of another one......I was FTO'ing a recruit who was just out of the academy. We went on a burglar alarm call at a local business. I had my recruit watch the front window with a long gun (standard for awhile here)(where I didn't think he could get in much trouble) while I watched the side of the place and another officer checked out back. All of a sudden newbie keys up his radio and says "I got someone inside! and he's got a gun" So we close the air, call for K-9 , advise the shift sgt of a possible barricaded subject, and wait. and wait, and wait. While the K-9 is trying to figure out a way inside the Sgt arrives and decides to take a peek inside the window. He takes newbie so he can show him where he saw the guy. As they look inside the newbie yells "there he is and now there's two of em"...hahahahaha he's looking at himself and sarge in a big huge mirror on the back wall.......took a long time to live down that one

Your DUI one reminded me of one. This woman leaves one of our local bars and is a least smart enough not to drive, but she normally gets about 3 blocks and decides to stop me to call her a cab. Not a problem, we go to the corporal who has the department cell phone and is on a traffic stop about 100 yards from us. I get the phone and notice the cpl is a little jumpy. The woman turns out to be similar to the nurse you described. So of course we call over a few other officer's as witnesses that we didn't do anything inappropriate. Our newest officer is on scene about 2 minutes before he comes out of the closet. Right there in front of everyone the first thing he says when he gets out of the car is "I'm gay!" And he doesn't say it he yells it. He is the biggest and meanest looking of all of us. All we could do is look.
