The women were all social worker types helping their fellow citizens. Kinda makes you wonder what type guidance our unfortunate get.

It's likely that they did panic... Very few people keep a clear head when faced with death. It also could be the first thought of the person was rather than call 911 was to hit the green talk button twice and dial the last number called... "Oh my God, I was just talking to you a few minutes ago and now we're sinking in the river! Please get us some help!"

Panic in emergency is one of the reasons the last place I took CPR classes doesn't "recertify" it's lay-trainees anymore. Someone who doesn't regularly practice CPR, when faced with the possible death of another person is very unlikely to do it correctly. It is just hoped that they do it well enough to not do any harm and still possibly be able to save a life if no one better qualified is there to assist...

I feel absolutely terrible for their friends and families. What a terrible way to end a joyful occasion.

(BTW - Blonde at birth, but improving since jr. high...)
