Women...
The funniest part is picturing them pounding on the glass screaming "blubblubhelp me.. blub blub help me" and not trying the door handle...
Looking at the pic, there is no sign of a rollover or any reason why the door would be jammed shut.

Actually, I was just wondering.
With everything electric on cars these days . . .
For example, when I put my car in gear, the doors lock automatically. There is no door lock plunger that you can pull up like in the old days. There is a button you can manually activate on the door by the handle, but I believe that it too is electrically operated. So, if a vehicle is in the water it may be that the electronics were shorted out and they were unable to unlock the doors (not sure what the set up is in a Cherokee) If that turns out to be the case . . . massive law suit and recall of billions of vehicles coming).
Also, the rear doors probably couldn't be opened due to those irritating child lock protection things. If the child prevention safety lock is activated, the only way to open the door is from the outside...so if any of the three were in the back . . . their inability to open the door if this was the case could have caused panic . . .
Any number of scenarios are possible, not just that they were idiots scenario.
Granted, the calling friends thing seems a bit retarded, however you might want to keep in mind the other factors and possibilities before you gleefully make fun of the deaths of three people.
God forbid your wives/girlfriends bite it some day . . . so we can all make fun of them and their female stupidity.

Your front door theory is a little off though, because even with electric locks, the inside door handle is a manual, mechanical set up.
I really don't think they were idiots, I think a big factor in this accident was panic. After all, how many of us have ever placed within that situation? Same goes for the cellphone. Probably, in the limited amount of time they had, it was a frantic scramble, thus, the wrong number. It's truly sad, particularly in 35 feet of water.
In that car only the rear doors wouldn't open in the even of power loss & child safety locks are engaged.
Almost every car on the planet allows the front doors to open (even when locked) with a pull of the handle. Other cars, like BMWs, require 2 pulls. One to unlock, one to open.
They died 'cuz they paniced and didn't think. Sad but true. I didn't know them, so I mock them. It's funny. I'll sleep well tonight.

Survival of the fittest...
And boys, being of the female persuasion myself I'd like y'all to remember that we're not all air-headed bimbos. While these women were a little on the dim side, females do NOT have the corner on the Darwin Awards. Are we forgetting the post a while back about the guy who drove home with the headless body of his friend in the passenger seat, and he didn't know about it until they arrested him??? Can you say "shallow end of the gene pool"? There are plenty of idiots out there both male and female and what's really scary is they have drivers licenses and are on the road with us every day
There, just had to stick up for us girls...continue on guys...

Unfortuanetely the accident occured at 0430, that's pretty early. Leads me to believe the wemon were probably waisted from a evening of drinking. Most likely how the darn car went off the road.
Moral of this story, don't drink and go diving!
