Angry Look what Frances did!!

Ok guys, I'm gonna tell you about the DAMAGE this damn hurricane did.

My sister was ready to leave for college today, and her car was underneath the carport. Before she drove off, she went in the driveway to pick up some of the bigger sticks that had fell from the strong winds. She was complaining that she didn't wanna drive over them.

Well my car is parked at the end of the driveway, on some stones. As my sister gets closer to my car, she says, "OMG, this huge limb almost hit your car!" And then she started freaking out, so I thought maybe it DID it my car, and maybe cracked the taillight. Boy, was I wrong!! She said that my whole rear window is busted, and glass was everywhere.

Well I just bolted in my bare feet and robe out to see my car. Sure enough, a big *** limb, about 4ft long, was lying right next to my car. Nearly ALL the rear windshield glass was just completely gone, except for a few shattered pieces still intact around the edges.

I couldn't believe it,,, I started making jokes about it. I laughed at first, but then later it really hit me. This is what I saw:

(insert scream here)

My parents are out of town, and I mean millions of towns away. My sister wanted to stay and help me with it instead of driving back to college so soon. (She eventually went back).

*NOTE: Before my parents left, my dad advised me to "Park the Buick in the gravel, because it's safest there, so nothing will fall on it."

My sister got ahold of the rents, finally. They contacted the insurance agency and they said the car would not be covered. When my sister got off the phone, she told me my dad was sorry, that he'd pay for it, and that I'd have to ride the bus to the educational center.

It pissed me off so bad that this had happened,,and that my car is not fully functional,,and that I can't use it, that I had such a surge of energy through me, and I was throwing stuff around and cussing up a storm, and crying. (After all, Bucky the Buick IS my baby). I was ROYALLY pissed off!! as you can imagine.

I took some pics, just to be safe. I thought the outside was bad until I opened the back doors. Sitting water was on the floor, behind the driver's seat. Twigs and leaves and tiny, tiny pieces of glass. EVERYWHERE!!!

Worst of all, my watchdog (bobblehead) Carlos was injured:

So my sister and I went to work, with garden gloves and buckets, eventually getting most the glass out of the way. I raked away the stones/dirt behind the car, that had traces of glass in it.

I backed it into the other side of my driveway, and this time it was beginning to rain. I put a big tarp over the car, esp. over the rear end, and held it down by heavy stones/bricks.

Then, after that, I was gonna back it up under the carport (given my sister moved her car) when this truck (Chevy utility truck BTW) pulled into the driveway.

Guy walks out, turns out he's a friend of my dad's. My dad phoned him to come assist us, and that was cool.

So after a fast intoduction,, we all took a Dragontales plastic birthday table cloth (lol), and taped it in place of the now-missing rear windshield. We decided to take it to the glass repair shop.

I followed my sister, while my sister followed the guy. It was heavily raining the whole way there, and windy too. Kinda scary. I was so afraid the tablecloth woudln't hold up, because I kept hearing funny 'hissing' noises, lol. Despite all the rain and wind, it stayed in place!!

So we all got to the glass repair shop safely, and we looked for a key drop-off box, and none was there. The guy was so nice, he offered for him to give me the keys and he'd take it to them 1st thing in the morning when they open, which was generous!! So we all said our thank yous (greatly appreciated), and I hopped in my sister's car and we went back home.

I'm feeling a tad bit better about all of this, but it is an emotional thing. Especially when, no limbs even CLOSE to the big honker that crashed through the glass, were even where I had the car ORIGINALLY parked. I told my dad I'm never listening to him again, lol.

I was kind of worried something like this would happen, but sure enough, it did. It's whatcha get, I guess, when you are garageless and you have glass on your car, and you've got 4ft limbs on trees, and you've got 30mph winds, and you've got gravity. It sucks.

IF I had a truck, the dang thing woulda just fell in the bed, would it have not?! If I had pulled the thing in nose first, it woulda. But that's not even applicable here,, oh well.

So, oh yeah,, the glass place was closed, of course, so I HOPE they can get this thing done by tomorrow! I am thinking of taking the day off tomorrow, even though I am 'supposed' to go back to school. I don't want to go,, partly because of the transportation thing, and just because I am stressed the heck out.

I feel really bad for Bucky, because well, like I said, he's my baby. I'd never wish this on him ever!! He didn't deserve this at all!! :-( And no, I'm not okay...

More pix in progress...

That sucks man, but if that's the damage you got away with, consider yourself lucky!

I have an ex-girlfriend that did almost as much damage as that!

Still sucks though. Glad you made it through and still have power!

!!Edit!!

I just realized you were in GA and not FL. I have been through 4 hurricanes on the coast and was wondering how in the heck you only had glass damage. I didn't mean to make light of your damage...that's awful, and that smell in the carpet may not ever go away. Sure is good to have good people help you out like that. That back glass should be readily available and probably in stock, so you should have your baby back in no time.

We're getting some 30-40 MPH gusts here now, but no rain yet. I'll sit in the garage with a 12 pack and watch this thing roll in. I already have limbs down...in the yard, not on the truck thank God.

Anyway, glad you're safe.

The power went out lastnight, and stayed out for about 20 min. But yesterday we also had the power going out, on and off, a few times. A bunch of never-ending twigs and sticks in the driveway, and RAIN!!

guys, I'm so bummed, I don't know what to do.

a) I did some research, and it looks like I am too young to rent a car.
b)I absolutely positively can't take the bus. I am seriously, VERY abhorrent to that option.
c) friends are far and few with me, and I don't know who I'd call to bum a ride from, because I don't really feel like they'd wanna take me... They probably would, but still.
d) I wanna stay home tomorrow, but the dog sitter is scheduled to come over around lunch time (while I'm at school) and deal with the dog for about a half hour. If I take off school, then I'll have to tell my mom, then phone the dog sitter and tell her not to come here. No big hassle, really, but I'd do anything not to ride the b-u-s. I just can't do that. I can't.
e) I really, REALLY would like the car to be done by tomorrow. I wouldn't mind missing a day of school (besides, I AM kinda feeling sick btw) IF the car would be ready tomorrow.

Please ease my feelings of panic and depression.

At 17, you're going to have problems...in fact, you're probably SOL (simply out of luck). You said your parents are out of town, are there any other adults around that could rent a vehicle and add you as a driver? That's about your only hope.

If you were 18, there would be a few more options.

I would be the first person calling the glass shop tomorrow and let them know your concerns. Don't be an a$$, but let them know you're underage and your rents are out of town and that it's your only transportation. Keep in mind, they're going to be SLAMMED tomorrow with glass claims. Also, keep in mind that a tropical storm just came through your area...nothing is handled quickly after a storm like that...plus, the shop and the shop owners are going to have their own personal issues to deal with (wives yapping to get the yard cleaned up, etc.).

Good luck.

Have a nanner and wait patiently.

1: It's a car. It can be fixed.
2: You are overreacting.
3: It's just a piece of glass. Tape some plastic sheeting over the hole until you can get the glass replaced.
4: Ride the bus if you are unable to drive the car. Lots of other people ride it, correct? Again, you are overreacting.
5: Why are you panicked and/or depressed over this? It's just a car.

PS: take the car to the car wash & take the back seat out & vacuum it real good to get all the glass out.

No offense clonetek, but he's 17...his world revolves around his car.

He is taking it a little rough, I agree. I look at it this way...no car = no class! What's the problem? Milk this puppy as long as you can! Hell, tell your teachers you were in the car when the limb fell and you're scared to drive again!
