WTH are you thinking. get a Harley like a real man. Crotch rockets are for boys.
Sorry Beannie - you seem real cool, other than your confusion about bikes and you are a fellow Ma$$hole!!!!!
SingleMom,

You can see from track day, he is already past needing a "starter bike".
I had '83 XLS years ago, after the BMW R100RS/7 and before the '88 GL1500.
Now I moved up the ladder, noting that I am not 55, and by law not allowed to own a GL for another 19 years.
Track days are a lot more fun on this then the R100RS, then again I just did a 680 mi./14 hour day on the ZX and my rear was hurting. Should have taken the ZG instead.

Bean is correct, some riders are just out to give the majority a bad name. Then again that can be said for almost any section of the human race.
Sorry just had to stand up for my brother, fellow Kaw and F-150 owner !

I'd really like a BMW bike... mmmmm....

EDIT: How tall was Lurch? I gotta be pretty close if not taller than him. I'm 6'10" and some change FLAT FOOT. An easy 6'11" in shoes. D'oh! It sucks tryin' to buy something you really want (ie, a CAR, bike, clothes, etc..). However, I wouldn't trade my gargantuan proportions for anything..
Well, I'm not sure precisely how tall lurch was/is, but he was the most obviously tall figure whenever standing amongst others. Seems like you would easily fit this bill!

Funny you mention BMW, recently, I've been looking at:

Did you see the write up on the new RS1200 ? 167 HP. It is a completly differnet engine then the R or K bikes, with a 55* inline 4. Kind of like they took a K Bike enigne, and rotated it 90*. The thing I did not like is the relocated oil pan, up high like a HD, and it had twin oil pumps to make it work. All this to make the 55* inline 4, without loss to the ground clearance.
Nice diversion from Stutgart though. Makes me think they are going to get back into SuperBike racing next year. ??

Nice! I'm not the only one!!!!!

Just think though, your Kawi has a faaaaar more comfortable seat/riding stance than mine... Takes about a week every season to get used to the "Superman Flying" position...

The bike will most likely be the Buell Firebolt. A really slick bike, harley engine but a lot of solid engineering and cool design features. The plan was this year, but my old SUV broke down and it was bike or new truck.
Killer bike though. Flat torque band, fuel tank in frame, computer controlled butterfly exhaust...
Also looked at an R1, but at 6'4 (slightly shorter than my abnormal friend D) its a little tough to be on a bike like that for any length of time.
Buell's are cool, some sound mean as all heck. The only thing I never cared for, was the rubber belt drive. I know it's quiet, but I wonder how tough it is?

Oddly enough, the 7R is pretty decent for the taller folk. I'm right ata 6', and I'm not nearly as 'crunched' on it as I am on the new Kawi 10R, the 636, or the R1. Mind you, after riding the 7R for two years, the bikes I've mentioned feel like small, flickable, powered bicycles!

The 7R is a bike bike for big guys!

dzervit, can you stop by later. My 6'6" ex put something on the top shelf in the cubbard over the fridge. I can't reach it, even on my step stoole. Think you could give me hand?

To set the record straight, I NEVER EVER said that I like the fat fairy men the ride Hogs, I just like the bike itself. And I never said I dislike bucks who ride crotch rockets, just don't care to ride on the back of a crptch rocket. A Harley is much more comfortable and more my pace. Anything over 100 (and yes I have been over 100 on a crotch rocket) is a bit too much for me. The small piece of plastic on my head would have done absalutely nothing had I hit the pavement.

The Conc, yes it does, but is the 7R that different from the 9R ? Dual headlamps, it is a 01-02 ? Mine is the '99 9R, and I would guess they are about the same.
The other cheater I have with the 9R is that I am 6'-1", with a 30" inseam, and 38" arms, so I fit the Conc and the 9R just fine. I'd hate to have tried that 680 Mi day trip with short arms, my back would have been killing me in addition to my rear, would have been worse if I had the fuel capacity of the ZG ( 7 Gals = ~ 280 miles between fills ) . 9Rs are not made for Iron Butt Runs
The stance on the new 10R seems to be a killer.

BTW : I seem to recall one other Kawi / F-150 owner combo here, from CA I think.

should that have read :"fat hairy" or did you mean fat fairy.
BTW: Anyone who takes it to 100MPH with a pass on is not too bright. Notice the Murder Weapon is setup solo ? The Conc thou, that would work just fine comfort wise, cruizing sub 100 that is. The Sport Tour class is a nice long distance runner, better be with the range it has. Lots of the COG memebers go 2 up multi-thousand mile trips without problem.
I don't think I'll ever take a pass on the 9R regardless of speed, and the ZG, I don't think I'd do over a ton with a pass. Doesn't strike me as a good thing to risk someone else, myself on a clear open road, with good conditions, that is another story.
No flame shot yourway about the person riding, just your choice of bikes Try a GL1500 or GL1800, and you won't touch anything else. 5 - 50 -500 mile days are all the same. Mom and Dad would do trips to Yellow Stone and Corpus Cristy on the Wing, without complaints, on a GL1500 with the camper on the back.

I know you didn't!

You hit the nail on the head in terms of why motorcycling is so fun, there's a bike for EVERYONE! As a matter of fact, I have two friends that ride Harleys (heck if I know what type of Harley's they are though, for I'm really, REALLY, unfamiliar with Harley nomenclature). They like to sit comfortably (and yes, even I admit that for the most part (except for exaggerated choppers) Harley's are generally more comfortable than the "typical" sportbike) and just cruise around, simply enjoying being out on a nice day. Kinda like the pack I ran into in that little story of mine.

On another note, being on the back of most sportbikes is horribly uncomfortable unless the female is like 5'1" and 110lbs at most! Except for mine though, I have a "bigger" pillion than most bikes, and I've had female friends about 5'2" 140lbs ride in the back, and they're pretty comfy. Well, at least for an hour or two!

It's all good though, that's another fun thing about motorcycles, the sheer volume of variety out there.

And I have to say, I have never, EVER, met such a diverse group people within my entire life, until the day I got a bike. Just another reason why motorcycling is so fun and entertaining in an infinite amount of ways!

It's an '01, and yes, they are that different! The 7R is, well, the "odd-ball" of the Kawi Ninja sportbike line. Sitting on a 9R and a 6R (at least, prior to 2003 when Kawi re-introduced the 6R) are very similar, IMO. You sit on the 7R, and you'll immediately notice the difference. Like I mentioned before, one of the best way to describe it, is Superman flying! The seat angles you down into the tank, and your arms stretch out and low. It's truly a "tank hugger", and you're lower to the ground. For perspective, when I rode my friend's 6R, I actually thought, "Wow, this would be comfortable on long trips, you could almost get away with calling it a sport-tourer" LMAO!

I will say this about the 7R though, it's "specialty" is riding through twisties. It's not a wheelie-Squid bike, it was made for turning, and the stability is nothing short of phenomenal.

Beany - saw this in the news today. Ouch...

Motorcyles Traveling In Opposite Directions Collide
Driver Crossed Centerline, Sheriff's Say

POSTED: 2:21 pm EDT September 6, 2004

A bizarre crash Sunday involved two motorcycles, which were traveling in opposite directions, then collided head on.

Washtenaw County Sheriff's deputies investigating the crash said that a Honda motorcycle, driven by Jonathon Shaw, 49, of Livonia, crossed the centerline on a curve and struck a westbound Honda Gold Wing motorcycle, driven by James Vinson, 58, of Canton.

The accident happened Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Huron River Drive, west of Tubbs, in Scio Township.

Both drivers were critically injured and both died shortly after the accident at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Witnesses said that the motorcycle driven by Shaw was traveling at an extremely high rate of speed prior to the crash.

Toxicology results will determine if alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Maybe more along the lines of drift in the curve. Seen tons of riders that don't know what line to hold in a cruve, or start too low, and drift out. i.e. : If the bike travling at a high rate of speed had a right hand curve, and took the wrong line through the curve, not able to hold the line, drifted to the left, and maybe into the on coming traffic's left hand curve, where maybe that bike was holding a strong left hand lane position, or maybe even had take a line for a higher rate of speed, and drifted into the on coming traffic's lane, SMACK !! Hard to say either way, could be a combo of both. Seen guys on the Dragon in a left hand curve start out diving into the on coming traffic lane, due to not knowing WTF they were doing, aside from wanting to try to drag a knee
All the same sad to see this happen to anyone. I don't like some of the stunts squids pull on the road, but I'd rather not see them pay the ultimate price for what they were doing. Some serious road rash and ghost payments on a totalled bike should be a good enough price tag. Everyone goes home sooner or later is the end goal.
