Who gave me their bad karma?!

This is getting ridiculous!
I was helping my brother-in-law pull some stumps of posts out that were concreted in the ground yesterday. I followed most peoples recomendation of using a tow strap over a chain, and got a broken windshield for my effort!
I looped the tow strap over the post stump, and connected the other end to the front tow hook, put it in 4-Low and steady and easily backed up. Well, the stump broke off at ground level and was sling-shoted into my windshield.

So far in the last few months I've been laid off, had to replace the truck battery (again), sold my house for less money than I wanted, and it looks like I'm going to be moving on my 30th b-day.

On the flip side, it hit the windshield instead of the grill/hood or someone, I got another job (even if it is 70 miles from the house), I sold my house (fairly quickly, too), and the commute is going to get a lot shorter real soon. And of course, no one in my family is being deployed overseas, unlike some people I know.

Hind-site is 20/20, but I always put a blanket or towel over the middle of the strap. Doesn't seem like it would do much, but it does. I have had many come loose like that, but have been fortunate to make it out without damage.

It can only get better from here though, right?

Have a beer and wait on the lottery...you're bound to win after the past few weeks you've had!

What the hell, I am feeling generous...I'll throw in a couple nanners too.

Yup, the blanket is the only way to do this; you're damn lucky the post didn't come thru the windshield and kill you. Also, when you use the blanket method, make sure no one is within range of the line if it snaps.

Not saying he shouldnt do it, but how is wrapping the blanket over the strap gonna keep the stump from flying into his windshield?

When using a WET blanket a very wet one it stops all the Whip/energy from the chain, strap, stump/post when it releases from the ground and will simply drop to the ground. This providing you are not doing it going 60+ miles an hour.

36fan, I feel your pain. Last week I found out that the county I live in wants to rezone the land that I, 106 other homes and a nursing home are on. They want to rezone it from conservation to commercial so they can build a "business campus". Something no one in the area wants. Of course we are fighting it. We shall see if we can beat them.
This week I found out that I will be laid off at the end of the year. This will make the third time this has happened because of a merger.

No - don't ever say that. No matter how bad things are they can always get worse.

I went home yesterday and tried to mow my grass. The lawnmower battery was dead, which meant and I had to jump it off of the truck (w/ it's new 1000 cranking amp battery). Also, last week when I mowed, I ran out of gas about 50 feet from the barn - which meant I had to push it uphill into the barn.

Batteries, like most pieces of equipment, seem to have a shortened life span around me.

If I tried to write a book, the pen would break and I would end up with ink all over me.

I neglected to mention earlier that after my windshield got busted, I switched to my logging chain and didn't have any problems.

Also, when I listed the ***** that has happened to me lately, I forgot to mention the trip to the emergency room for a scrathed cornea (eyeball).

I think my luck might be changing, on my way home tonight, I ALMOST got into 2 wrecks (stupid f!@#ers) - 1 guy pulled out in front of me in the rain, and another guy cut me off and almost took 5 or 6 other cars while locking up the tires and fish tailing, jumping the curb, and driving on the sidewalk. The a$$hole then drove into a shell parking lot, cut through 2 or 3 more parking lots so he go around traffic and not wait at a traffic light.

Batteries are cheap!

Here's a word of advice... while you're at work this coming week, don't mess with the oil/water indicator. I just bought a new one for the office recently to the tune of $1200!!
