canyon,

The PCM doesn't see the oil pressure. The sendor is connected to the insreument cluster and that is all. It sends a signal to a micro processor in the cluster which then sends a signal to the guage an or to the low oil pressure/ high coolant tempreature indicator. I will wager that the engine will start. There are diagnostic procedures to test the sender for low/no pressure. One is to install a mechanical guage in place of the sendor. There is no procedure to short or by pass the sendor so the engine will run.

JMC

PS. unplug the switch to test. With no pressure the switch opens.

OK I stand corrected, the truck will start and run with low oil pressure signal. The BS flag is raised in my honor.

Thanks JMC

Thought I would update. The dealer has turned this problem over to their insurance company. The insurance company left a message stating they want to view the truck to determine if damage has been done to the engine.

Just be ready to hear the ins. co. say there is no sign of damage. The only way to check for excessive wear is to break the engine down, in which case they might as well put a new engine in it. I would get a signed statement from a mechanic you trust as to what happens when you run an engine with no oil for 5 full minutes. I still think they should give you an extended warranty on the engine. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Right, get your own opinions of what happens and why you can't just look at the engine and hear it run to determine the level of damage.

I am calling the dealership/their insurance co. tomorrow and telling them I want a new engine(not rebuilt) installed or I am taking them to court.

I am very disturbed with ford motor co for being unreachable during this dispute with one of their dealerships. If I lose the court case I will likely trade my truck on a nissan titan. An american company produces a superior product and lets one of their dealerships walk all over us customers. This is not making me a comeback customer. If anyone has a # to ford motor co (beside the worthless one in the owners manuel) please post it. Thanks
