As time goes on, more and more devices will be heading towards USB 2.0, so if you buy a 2.0 hub, you won't have a need to replace it in the near future if you get a faster machine or peripherals. The price difference should not be that drastic, especially if you catch a sale.
By the way, Macs are good computers, as are Windows boxes. They both run on software, so they both have their issues.

If you are planning a career in an industry that uses Macs, you will be OK. If not, you may want to experiment with a Windows PC sometime in the future. Right or wrong, they are far more prevalent in both people's homes and most businesses than Macs.
