Which model of Imac do you have? As for checking the software updater, I believe it's either under the apple menu, or under the apple menu in control panels. I could not seem to find the missing link between 8.6 and 9.0, which is where the updates seem to start on the apple support site(at 9.0 and up). The power adapter died on our old laptop, and the new one comes tomorrow. I could help more if it was operable to refresh my memory. Running softare update is probably your best bet right now, if it never has been done. The old laptop was shipped with 9.0.2 so I do not know as much as I could about the older models.
If you still cannot find out what you need to know, then try asking at this site. Let them know what you're looking to do, and they should be able to help more than I.,,,,98

Thanks... Not sure to know what model it is, um... Power PC OS 8.6?

It's saying I need the Mac OS 9 cd to install OS 9? I don't know what I'm doing. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60492-S
Do you think it's in the box that the laptop (OS 9) came in? I just searched around for the iMac cds and came across an 'iMac Software Install' cd.. hmm..

Exclamation

The laptop should have been packaged with the software discs, as a backup "just in case" you need it. Actually I don't know why I didn't think of that before? It's worth a try to install the 9.0 disc from the laptop onto the Imac. Nothing much to lose really? After that, the other updates should install easily. You would just have to d/l them. The main thing is that I am not sure if there was a version between 8.6 and 9.0 that would be needed? If it were me, I would go ahead and try it. But, I am the adventurous type,,,,98

There should be a white sleeve with several discs in it. and it may even have adobe photodeluxe 2.0, which is what I use for the most part. Use software install, not restore. They should be well marked. It may be one disc or two that make up the full system software. OSX has so many discs it's almost laughable,,,,98

Got everything set, upgraded to 9.0!
98 helped me realize I already have a hub.
Now, the Kodak software doesn't work on either computer. Claims it needs a memory card, which I do not have.
The internet still does not work on the laptop. I have no clue why.
Anybody??

I didn't bother reading any of the posts, but I'll say this right off the bat. It's obvious why you're having problems, you have a Macintosh! (hey, at least Windows works halfway decent some of the time.)

Without knowing how you are set up, it is hard to figure out why you are not connecting to the internet. However, why are you fighting with the Kodak software. You should be able to simply connect the camera to the MAC via USB and view the contents on the memory card in the camera. Then all you need to do is select the pictures and copy/paste there you want to store them. I have not used an MAC in years, but I thought it was just this easy. **Not a bust on Apple** but XP has this feature and they stole most of their idea's from Apple.

Have you ever worked with a Mac before? I doubt it. Save your ignorance for when it's really needed,,,,98

Ok, this is what I know about how I am connected:
The 2 computers are NOT on a network, and the laptop is connected to a special cable... Umm I forget... um.... Well, I could take some pictures and show you on here if that'd be any help? I'm not real worried about the Kodak thing, because I can resize the pics in what 'you guys' know as 'Paint' or something. (It's a Mac thing, you wouldn't understand ) And I do not have a memory card, although the box to the camera says it is 'compatible' for one. Just the whole fact that the poor little laptop has no internet connection whatsoever is driving me crazy.

Lightbulb

Hmmm, lemme guess. Someone's lack of knowledge, or inability to make something accessable to all computers is supposed to be funny, Yawn....! I run into that problem less and less every day.....,,,,,98

That joke is about as boring as a Windows based computer......

Nice one, 98.

Now I'd appreciate some real help, not anyone saying I need to get a PC. Can't afford buying another computer.
