[Rant]

Smoking has been around a long time guys, its part of our culture wether you smoke or not. Smoking is not good for you of course, no one said it was... but treating people like a lesser person because they smoke is wrong.

The reason why most smokers get pissed with non-smokers is because they are tired of being told where and when they cant smoke.

If a person is outside smoking, then that is perfectly acceptable.... NO ONE is going to get cancer or any other medical complication from simply walking by that person. To say that it effects your health is a dim witted thing to say. You inhale more fumes and gases going to the track or walking through a parking lot.

People with pre-existing respiratory problems have to be careful normally anyhow, and thats their responsability. To ask millions of people to stop doing something they enjoy because 5% of the population has sensitive lungs is not resonable...sorry but thats life.

I do not condone smoking in enclosed public areas however. I personally will only smoke outside...not in my truck, not in my house. I smoke very little compared to most people... mostly because I enjoy it...I dont crave it like a lot of people do.

I hope smoking never goes away, its a personal choice and should always be an option for someone who may enjoy it. I just believe there is a certain "code of conduct" for when and where you do smoke.

Simple manors and common sense play a huge part. That goes for non-smokers also.... there is never a need to be rude to anyone.

Im not willing to give up something I enjoy because "other people" dont like it... its not a matter of do or do not ...its a matter of having a choice, and not having other's opinions jammed down your throat... welcome to America... which by the way was founded by a bunch of dirty smokers...they just used pipes and hand rolled them...

I agree with all those, like Habibi that have said it is a matter of respect. That is how I am as a smoker. I don’t smoke around those that don’t like it. Never smoked in restaurants, just because it was not “my” place.

As have been mentioned the second hand smoke debate is just that. It is like global warming, no real facts to back it up one way or the other. It is just some groups try to slant things in such a faction it “looks” like factual data but it is not.

Let’s not forget years back when some of the other “fat” ***** where telling everyone that egg’s would kill you, even one egg a day or week. Pretty much screwed the egg business for many years until it was proven to be false what the ***** where marching and screaming about.

Now, people, Habibi, when I say ***** I am not talking about the causal non-smoker who don’t like someone smoking around them. I respect your type. It’s them screaming, uneducated ***** that think they know what is best for all and THAT IS THAT, what they say should go or you’re an evil person. Give me a break, time to crack these ***** across the *** with some good ol’ common sense whoop ***…

Now, back to your regularly schedule programming…

I was gonna stay out of this, but it's just too good to pass up.

Certain opinions suggest:

smoking is the most vile, disgusting, retched, vomit inducing habit that anyone on this planet could possibly become addicted to. Smoking has no beneficial results. It has no know medical advantages. Almost all ingested or aspirated habits have at least one redeeming value or at least a point of argumentation for a redeeming value. Smoking has none!
I'm not a "****" about non-smoking. If someone around me is smoking and it bothers me, I move to where it doesn't bother me. I don't get into a verbal debate with them, I just move. If I can't move, I ask them if they could refrain from smoking for the duration of the event. Most people comply almost immediately and most also offer an apology, although it is not warranted. I would prefer to be able to fart on demand, then stand next to them and engage in SBD warfare (for the flatulence impaired, SDB is Silent But Deadly), but I have yet to perfect that skill. My wife swears I can do it, but I really can't.

01, I think you are in the minority of smokers, most just light up without a thought to anyone else around.

Oh man, reading this thread is giving me a craving from hell, I want one sooo bad!!!

It's not gonna happen though, I'm not wasting 2 months of hard work to give me some pleasure right now. (it sure would be good to have one right this second , Mmmmm)

You know when I'm going to take up smoking again? When I get old and grey, and close to deaths door, then I'm gonna smoke like a chimney because it wont matter, LOL

May as well throw my opinion in the Opinion Pot too.

I think second hand smoke is B.S. I don't pay attention to any statistics because they don't hold anything true for the future. Such as, "1 in every 5 people will die from ________" Saying will is implying that the future is known, as where I come from, nobody knows the future. Restaurants with "Smoking or non?"-sections are a crock too. What separates the smoke between the two rooms? You would think that the anti-smoking lobbyists would have invented a 'No-Smoke' cigarette attachment already. I certainly don't take it personally when someone smokes around me... if I don't like it then I get up and sit somewhere else where the smoke's not blowing in my face. I don't smoke myself, because the health risks kind of suck, and was never really tempted to. Just because I don't smoke doesn't make me a 'good' person, and I think just because some people do smoke, it makes them 'bad' people in society (according to the non-smokers). Truth is, everyone's got the same equal rights (unless one is from the U.S., and another is from the Middle East... ) It's just the "It offends me" b.s. going around these days.

I agree with you, but one minor correction.

Everyone in the US of A, that is leagally here, has the same rights.

Of course some things should be fixed, but for now it works.

I guess you all don't have to belive that crap about 2nd hand smoke but here is my personal experiance with it.

I have/had asthma and a few other "minor" lung problems. But I can still run 2 miles in under 12 minutes and are more physically fit then most people. When I was a child I would visit my cousin, and she smoked a whole lot. And when ever we would visit her I could hardly breath. Now that I am almost over my asthma I still have trouble breathing when my roomate finishes a smoke.

I don't complain about it though, because that is everyone right to smoke, and I am not going to take someone's right away just because I prefer not to indulge in it. However I think it is only fair that smokers realize myself and all the other people that 01 had so many choice words for don't smoke for a reason. Therefore I am most appreciative to all the smokers that give up a few "smokers rights" to make us happy.

I must admit though, I find myself more and more steping outside with the smokers to socialize. Smoke brakes own!
