Got detention!
I had to go in the assistant principal's office today! It was kinda scary... my first time to ever get detention. So you wonder how I got it, eh? TARDIES! The man said I had 5 (and that's all you need to get after school detention) but I KNOW that is a little too high! I can distinctly remember being tardy 3 times to class. They have this new policy now where if you're late to class you automatically have to go to the office and they sign you a tardy slip and it goes on your record... that's how they keep track of how many times you're tardy. Well I asked the man, I was like, "What classes was I late for? I'd like to know" (the dates and stuff). He's like "Oh, we don't have record of that, you should keep up with that." Um, HELLO?! I'd like to know when these 5 times were! It just seems a little too much! No way have I had 5! And if they have proof of that, then ok, I was wrong. This is America, and I am innocent until proven guilty! They could say anything! I never thought twice about jotting it down for my own good, because it's not my responsibility! So now I gotta serve 20 minutes either before or after school. My parents don't think it's right that there is no physical proof of this that I was shown... I won't deny that I was late (which I was) but I would at least like to be informed of the other 2 times that I have no recollection of! So my dad is gonna go have a word with this guy. It's not really his fault but how they do things around here. I don't try to go against the system, I try to comply to what they have... but this seems a little unprofessional if you ask me. If I have proof, dates and times, of when I was absent "5" times, then I'll serve the sentence... Otherwise it seems ludicrous. Cuz all you do when you're tardy to class, is you go in the office (and usually there's a big long line) and she takes your name and finds it on a list, and probably writes a check? Or some other form of identification that you were tardy?? And they ask for your student id #. Then they give you a slip that says 'So and so will be late to class for ____ period.' Half the time they get my name spelledwrong, so it really isn't me... It just seems like such B.S.!!
It didn't ruin my day, although it happened at 8:30! LOL! What's your guys's take on this?
BY THE WAY, 2 out of the 3 times I was tardy, I didn't even have to be. It was totally unnecessary, people are just creeps man.

tell him to prove it.
be honest and say "I am not denying that I have been late, but I only have recollection of 3 occasions, not 5. So until you can show me where I have been late 5 times, then I will not be attending detention"
Nothing wrong with that. Be honest and polite. If he wants to be a ****, then he is a ****. But you take the high road and act like the adult.

I would say if they dont have proof how do they know you have 5 tardies?

2- This just recently happened on monday. Ok one time I forgot my book for english, and the teacher wasn't too happy about it. Well I keep it in my locker, and on my way to english I get it cuz my locker's right on the way. Well that previous night I had this nightmare that I couldn't open my locker! Sure enough it really happened! LOL! And the bell rang when I was at my locker. I walked down to the classroom, hoping I could get in, but she just shook her head like 'get out of here.' So I take my good old time, and get my book on the way back. (Sucessfully opened locker btw). Well, when I come into class, turns out we watch a video the whole time, and don't even need our damn books!!!
Man when I went to school, 2 tardies was detention. I think 5 was a 8-hr saturday school. I couldnt stand that because I never had homework. All I do to kill time in the class room is draw, and they wouldnt even let us do that. I basically had to stare at the wall for 8 hrs a couple of times.
when i was in HS 20 years ago (oh my am I ever old)
3 was the magic number.
3 lates equalled 1 misconduct form (and a detention)
3 misconducts resulted in 3 day suspension.
so the punishment for being late 9 times was a 3 day vacation of sleeping in.
Yeah. Made about as much sense then as it does now.

I hope your dad calls them to the carpet on this.
My son was reportedly late for classes 9 times in two months. One of those dates was sept 12 2001. I told them that was impossible because I kept my kids out of school that day, and unless they could provide better records, I would not be sending my kid to the detention.
That same school suspended him in Oct the following year, and never told us when he could go back, so I enrolled him in a high school corespondence course. They didn't notice him missing until Feb, when a colledge student called and said he was on the list of students needing help with algebra. I told her he doesn't even go to school anymore because they kicked him out. The princpal then called and I told her they aught to be embarassed because his report card said he passed one of his classes, and not one of his classes listed the same number of days absent. The principal then told me he could report the next day, and to be sure he got there even if the weather was bad becase it was state head count day. (Two days a year the schools count heads and get paid by the state according to how many students attend.) I didn't send him then, and I won't send him back to that school!
There is no excuse for poor record keeping like this. and these people are teaching our children? Teaching them what?

I went to HS last year and I dont even remember how many tardies = a detention. It was 3 or 5, cant remember. But most of the teachers were pretty lax about it if you got there within like 5-10 seconds
Get you a good lawyer. Want have to worry about that detention. Just make sure that the lawyer tales the principle from now on you will speak to me and not my client. BTW What high school are you in. Also never admit fault if at all possible.
we'll start somewhere,
If you dont want to fall in the Grand Canyon, dont go to Arizona!
Um, if you would not have forgoten your book you would not have been late!
Just possibly, a correlation might exist between people that are tardy and the details of which they remember???? take that however you want, if you can figure it out.
Ok, moving on.
You are complaining about 20 minutes!!!! Its not that big of deal. Guaging from someone that posts about that, they could use the 20 min before time studing!
Time management is very important, without it you will be nothing but a TV watching, Lazzy Mo-ron that amounts to nothing.
But who knows anyway.
