Its when the author states that "we speak english, not "insert language here"
The US was founded by many cultures... not just British slave owners looking for freedom.
The richness of the culture today is a direct result of the many languages and cultures that have added to it. Had pizza or pasta lately? Ever celebrate Oktoberfest? How about that Scandanavian character called Santa? Or Valentine's Day? These are not British at all.

America was NOT founded on other languages or cultures. It was founded on the culture the founding fathers brought with them and that culture is American period. It is not Asia, or Middle Eastern, nor is it French (thank God) or any other culture. America is its own culture.
There is absolutely no reason to change our culture, beliefs, or foundations to make others “feel” good about being here. Either they feel good because they are here and ACCEPT the ways of OUR culture or they can get the hell out and go back home from the sh*t hole they escaped.
Yes some things here came from other cultures, like pizza and we may have Valentine’s Day etc. They have evolved over time but were never a foundation of the American culture. They have been accepted and established and are part of American culture as is Christmas which seems to be a big problem for some people. Another problem for people is the Bible of which America’s core values and Constitution is almost completely based on.
I say before we worry about some lame person from another country trying to shove their culture down our throats they first learn to ACCEPT our culture and adhere, then and ONLY then can we think about accepting some of their ways into our culture…
Furthermore, before we can even think about accepting someone else’s culture we need to protect the one we have first from some of the wackos living right here in America who are Americans that are currently trying to tear down the very foundation America was based on. It’s ok to act like a freak on the street and have two guys kissing each other in public but God forbid someone wants to have the 10 commandments placed in public view. Something very wrong with that picture, very wrong indeed.
She takes the veil off for the photo ID or she GOES BACK TO WHERE SHE CAME FROM…
not just British slave owners looking for freedom.
Was it immoral? In my opinion yes, and during those times others found it immoral as well and went to war over it. That was the civil war, and guess who won? Those that found it immoral lead by a Republican President. Untold thousands of life’s, of WHITE people were lost fighting over something they believed in which was to rid itself of slaves. America corrected herself and now its time to move on with life. Those that want to live in the 1700’s and 1800’s great, but the rest of us are moving on…
01, you are absolutely correct on the cheapshot. I plagarized George Carlin on that one. I withdraw the comment.
Yes, there is a national language.
Yes, America was founded on Christian beliefs and values.
But I also agree with the classic "melting pot" approach to immigration. NO, DO NOT shove your culture and language down my throat as this is the culture of the country you enter, its not a surprise its in the open for all to see. What I do ask of immigrants is that they bring the best of their culture with them to improve all of our lives.
Many facets of American life are directly descended from those initial British settlers. But look around at how many things have changed as a result of melding the best of other cultures into our own.
In a nutshell, I believe that we all all better off when new cultures bring new ideas... but without having to sacrifice our own values/aspirations/beliefs. After reading and re-reading your reply, I think we both agree on this point
I just happen to find that article a little protectionist and intolerant. It sounded like a "my way or the highway" approach. What I took from that article was that the authors way of life was more sacred than anyone else... even other Americans with the same common cultural foundation.
