eBayer's

Yup, I've been a member for a longtime, but never did much till now.
I had my buddy put up my camper because he has a high rating, and is better at this stuff than me. He also has the title to it as he bought it first, then I bought it from him. He was point blank about everything, even included my city, and cell phone number. You wouldn't believe the responses / questions I/he got.
One person wants it delivered to Mass., a mere 739 miles away.
Another one wants me to drive a one way uhaul to Cali and fly back.
Yet another one wants a deal because he just got back from iraq. I can relate, but he is in Cali. (that's 2200 miles away) Any 'deal' I give him won't cover the cost of delivery, whether I drive it, or he comes and gets it, and he didn't mention how he intended on picking it up anyway.
Again, there has to be a camper nearer to these people than mine. I'm not putting these people down, and I did mention "Will discuss towing it to it new home!!!!!!!!!!!" but I have to believe they wouldn't want to pay what I usually get for delivering trailers. (80 cents to a buck a mile depending on weight)
BUT and here is the kicker, none of these people have bid on it. Others have bid without asking questions, so it shouldn't be neccessary I go through the trouble to make arrangements for non bidders. Am I nutZ or are they?
When this is over, it will be a long time before I sell something on ebay again.

On the up side, Fast Cloud's running light went out and a new one cost $100. I found a set, bid, then lost, then won a 'second chance' and ended up getting them for $82, so now he will have a spare. Cool.

I have sold a few things on Ebay and I will agree that there are some very "high maintenance" people out there who are super picky about stuff. I will go to certain lengths for people, but sometimes it is just to much. My suggestion for you is, that if they are making a bid, they should realize that you are far away, and that they will have to pay a bit to get the item. It is just the cost of bidding on a vehicle or something that is far away. That's my personal opinion. Also, I have had people on Ebay email me about things I am selling and asking all kinds of questions and even offering to just forgoe (not sure if that's a word) the bidding process and ebay system and just sell it to them after I have already put it up on ebay, I told all of them that if they are genuinely interested, to just make a bid and go witht he system. You will have to deal with the questions though in some instances b/c they want to know about it, and in my opinion it is part of selling, to inform the customer if they have questions. I would recommend that you suggest to them to at least make a bid if they are so interested though that they will ask tons of questions. Just my two cents.

Ha! Shows how out of touch I am. I thought from the title this thread had to do with Aspirin purchases over the internet.

serotta, it would be safer to buy asprin (as opposed to ebay stuff) over the internet, I think.

So this guy comes out to look at it, I set it up, he tries everything out, and I mean EVERYTHING. I hooked up the electrical cord, and he turns on and off the lights. He turns the ***** on the propane tanks, hears gas, then goes in, fires up the furnace, says if it works, he will buy it. It works. He hooks up the gas to the stove, and turns it on, hears gas, but he doesn't have a lighter to try it, so he assumes it will work, and turns it off. He checks out the electrical system, turns it from AC to battery, discovers the battery is dead, as I told him it probably would be. He looks at the sink, askes about the porta potty, I show him how it works ect. He inspects the canopy, curtains, bedding, seat cushions, turns on and off lights again, all good.
45 mintues later, he looks at his watch and decides it took 45 minutes to set up. Now, I am not about to argue, because if that's what he calls 'set up' then I am glad I am not his GF. He says he has a couple of jobs to do today, and will be out at 7 to pick it up. I told him that would cut into my Friday Fish dinner at Copperstones, and he said would saturday be better? I said, no tomorrow would be OK. He left no deposit, so I am under no obligation. but today when people hours away called, I had to tell them to call back after 7 to be sure it was still here. Well, it is 7:30 now. . .
My son is heating up pizza rolls, and I could have had a nice dinner out.
Why do people suck when you are selling something?

People seem to be afraid to tell the truth. Something as easy as, "Thanks for your time, but I don't think I want this camper.", is just too much for some people to say. One thing I've learned from selling cars, parts, bikes, etc. is: If they want it, they will leave money, if they don't leave money, I don't change my plans for them, and I sell it to the first person that puts money in my hand. Money = sale! anything else= no sale!

Been an ebayer for several years and I will surely admit, that while it used to be more fun, it has become a place to watch out for since there are plenty of those scammers perusing the site and out to get ya even if you are careful.
You can have a hundred great deals on ebay and then your trusting soul is drawn into a scam that costs you a few bucks and you begin to look at everyone out of the corner of your eye.

I recently sold a Yamaha waverunner and listed the loc as West Tenn.... a guy from Wash, DC bought it and although I was skeptical, he drove all the way to Nashville and picked it up!!! Then again, I purchased a computer monitor from a guy with great feedback and WHAM.... got taken for 470...........but at least the tech-scam cops are all over him now.............

I make an effort to deal honestly and straightforwardly but that doesn't seem to be the norm these days whether online or in person. It's kind alike one rainy day can cancel out a whole week of beautiful days.............

It does seem that the weirdos come out of the woods around ebay....... When you have that many persons perusing a site, there's bound to be some strange stuff......... BUT.... go to a local mall during the holidays and you'll see the same strangeness in person...LOL

I sell quite a bit of stuff on eBay, but rarely buy anything there. The best way to cut down on questions is to list every detail you can imagine in your listing and stick to it. For instance, maybe you could have listed that you would deliver in a 30 mile radius or if farther there would be an additional charge. Don't give up selling stuff there because it can be a great source of extra income.

Good luck with your sale!

so you would expect someone to bid first then ask if you'll haul it?

i ask questions before i bid also, if i get the reponse that i want then i bid. granted some of those requests seem outrageous. i've had a few myself from things i've sold.

just a thought

You know, I thought about that and I guess it makes sense. But why make arangements for someone who may not win?
Anyway, I got what I wanted / needed for it, so now I just have to hope they come and get it.
