A friend of mine has the 2003 Cobra and I really like it. I am pretty confident he would kill me in a race, so I didn't say anything about my truck compared to his Cobra. But last night a friend of mine got a new 02 360r Mustang and claims that it is way faster than the cobra and runs low 12's? That may be true but I'm wondering what that has that the Cobra doesn't. I know the Roush has upgraded suspension and the Roush Blower. But the Cobra has a fairly built block and an Eaton Blower also. Is the Roush blower any better of a blower? Do they both put out 8 pounds of boost factory? Also won't the Cobra take more (mods) thrown at it? Such as pulleys, nitrous even... I know the cobra has IRS, and what does the Roush have a single axle? If i can get more info on the Roush, I will try to post pics of it when I get them up. Thanks, Shane

 

Youre bud is living in denial for wasting a good chunk of change on that ugly as sin Roush mustang that is 30 hp LESS the the UNDERATED 03 cobra witgh 390...

Yeah that is what I said... it has what 360 horse? And the Cobra is 390... I'm wondering what the 360r has to be rated faster than the Cobra. Or is it just him saying its faster cause he bought the Rousch and Not the Cobra?
It is an 02 with 87 miles on it and sat at the dealership for more than a year, so he got it from the owners son and payed only $35,000 for it I think. Even at that price, I'd rather take an 03 cobra. This is the kid with the 2001 rt with the supercharger on it and ran 15 pounds of boost and his best time was a 13.8. AFTER more than $10,000 into his rt he ran what my truck did stock. To top it off, he blew a head gasket and had to have it towed from the track. That cost him $200. So instead of getting that fixed and running right, he still has it, and it's just sitting there, and he hasn't torn into it and just got the 360r!
He'll get what's coming to him when he races my friend with the 03 Cobra and IF the cobra isnt stock, all it will have done to it is a short throw shifter... And it will walk all over him.

I don't know if it will help Roush any, but the '03s are called a 380R now. I saw a couple issues back in MM&FF where they bumped the power up to compete with the Cobra.

yeah sure, most RTs with blowers are running in the 13 range with allot of work done to them. You can't just strap a blower onto anything and expect to go fast, it takes other mods to gain full potential of that blower you know!

 

Yeah he was told last night he was getting the computer off the 380r so he will have 380 horse. He got the car 1 year old and instead of getting the 03 he got the 02 and they are giving him the 380r computer. So then he should have 380 horse to compete with the Cobra's 390 under rated hp.

 

Real shame you guys dont live in Houston texas, I would meet your bud with the 360 at the track any night...

 

Huh, that 02' Roush 360 I saw at the track was running high 13's.

Roush........awesome suspension, other then that.......

those are just a few differences that I know off the top of my head......what really matters is 390hp underated and 380hp overrated.

 

Dont want to sound stupid but im stll learning...what does an underrated engine mean??

 

Underated is, Ford claiming 390 at the flywheel and the things damn near lay those #s down stock at the wheels.

 

According to the Roush website, they claim a low to mid 12 second quarter mile time. They better be able to do that if that's what they are publishing. If it's only running mid 13's, I would be very dissapointed.
