Middle Eastern Oil
Ha! We're on to you Raoul, you really want us to reach 300 million people, therefore you are asking us to reach 600 million people, thinking that if half of us do as you ask then you will reach 300 million people, but 600......... I'm tired already, can u imagin houe that crasy gril in the lihtnin' forem waz senting all thoze posts a mounth er 2 bak musta feltz?
The site below is too funny. They take the DOE's total oil imports data, sum it all up, and then tell you the percentage of IMPORTS that come from the Mid-east, yet leads you to believe it is the total percentage that each company uses for US production. Like was pointed out, the US does have its own domestic production, which drastically lowers the percentages.
Sad how misleading it is...

Two other points:
1. Depending on where you are in the country, most of your gasoline that you buy under a brand name was NOT refined by that brand. Refiners and gasoline marketers have agreements all over the country to expand their products geographical distribution. The same gasoline may or may not have different addititves added at the rack to make it a name brand. Therefore, just because you buy say "Citgo" gasoline, it is impossible to know that it was refined by a "Citgo" refinery. That Citgo gas could very well be refined by one of the so called "bad" companies you were trying to avoid.
2. Depending on where you live in the country, your gasoline that is refined by whatever refinery, and then sold under some brand name, may not have come from whereever this website would lead you to believe. In this market, nearly ALL of our crude comes from Canada, regardless of which refinery it goes to. (There are 4 refineries that provide the majority (like 98%) of our gasoline - Two in MN, one in WI, and one in ND). Of those refineries, only one has any association with a "branded" gasoline - Marathon Ashland, who owns Speedway and Superamerica. The others don't bear any gasoline comapnies names. Do you think the so called bad oil companies here are using oil from somewhere bad when all the oil comes from Canada?
We have a tank farm and distrbution hub just up the road from our office. Funny how you see tankers for Mobil, Texaco, Kwik Trip, Conoco, etc... all at the same racks, and none of them have a refinery up here. The vast majority comes from Flint Hills Resources, a subsidiary of Koch Industries - with no Brand affiliations.

So... if using Middle Eastern Gas doesn't support terrorism, then where do they get all their money?
People driving their big SUVs around are the ones who waste the gas. Why does that soccer mom need a big SUV getting like 12mpg? Do any of them actually use those vehicle's for work? They can do the same stuff with say... a minivan?

Let’s say I have an SUV sucking up Middle Eastern oil by getting 12mpg, but when I go home my thermostat is set to 65 degrees. My neighbor on the other hand drives a coffin small car that gets 25mpg but yet sets their thermostat to 75 degrees, who is using more oil? You don’t know is the answer so to blame someone for owning an SUV is complete ignorance.
The soccer mom can choose to drive what ever she wants, as can I. This is America and we have freedom of choice. Isn't that what all the liberal nut cases are always preaching (Pro-Choice)? Damn straight they do as they hug there little tree friends.
I am tired of some people whining about what others may drive when they have absolutely no clue what they are talking about. The commercial about supporting terrorism by owning an SUV is just that people who have NO DAMN clue about what goes on around them. They have absolutely no thought process and no logic as well. You HAVE to, you MUST look at the COMPLETE picture before coming to a conclusion.
Since there is no way to have a complete picture of how much oil any person actually uses then NO ONE can make a conclusion that someone that owns an SUV support terrorism more then those that don’t.
The fact of the matter is as I said before. If someone wants to use a STUPID example of “if you use oil you support terrorism” then EVERY SINGLE person in America supports terrorism. Why does it matter if someone that owns an SUV supports them more (as far as being illogical) then someone that drives something that is a coffin and gets better mileage?
I drive my F150 because I want to. Not because I have to because I want to. I am much safer in my F150 then being in some small Honda rice car. If the soccer mom choices to be safer for owning an SUV good for her, not only is it her right to do so, but very logical as well.
If you want to BLAME someone for terrorism and because we buy a LITTLE oil over seas then you need to blame the right people that would be ENVIROMENTAL WACKOS!!!! Not us normal people.
gopher is 100% correct!
here in MD, VA, and DC ALL of our gas comes from one refiner in MD. It is piped underground in huge 25 foot diam pipes to 2 tank farms. one in Fairfax VA and one in Baltimore city.
these 2 tank farms and pipelines supply ALL MAKES/BRANDS of gas in this area. It is just addative packages that make it a brand. and yes they sometimes screw up!
Trust me on this. A customer of mine is a contract hauler for many of the gas stations in this area.
Yes there are huge piplines under a lot of your houses! The reason you don't know is exactly for that reason! they don't want people to know where they are!
by the way the most stressful job is they person who has to operate the valves when the gas is comming from the refinery at a 100 thousand gallons a minute!
one last note, the refinery is not owned by one of the above listed brand names! so that right there shoots the theroy out the window.
