You are lucky the cops in your area backed you up. It's scary that your daughter was with you, but you do what you have to do.
Here's what the cops in my area are like:
I was once in a circle drive, servicing a rack at 4am, when a car pulled up behind me. I was thinking how stupid they are, because they can't go around. They could see what I was doing from main drive, if they had stayed on it, they wouldn't be stuck behind me now. Then a smaller (than mine) truck pulled up in front of me, and it sunk in.
I jumped back in the Truck determined to run them down, or wreck my truck trying. I hit the gas, and he backed up as fast as I went forward. I turned to my left (he was backing up to my right) and headed back to the 24 hour gas station where I had seen the police only minutes ago.
The car headed after me, and the truck followed him, both of them exceding the speed limit chasing me.
When I got to the gas station, I pulled in, the car pulled in, and the truck (saw the cops) took off. I stayed in the truck for a few minutes, and so did the guy in the car. Finally I got out, walk to the cops, and told them this guy and another car had just blocked me in at a circle drive in the apartments down the road, and after I almost ran the truck down, both of them chased me there. The cop looked at me like I was an alien. So I added "Look, he isn't even getting any gas. He is watching me, because he knows I am telling you about him right now."
The cop said he would talk to him. Meanwhile, I asked the attendant if that guy had pumped any gas. It's prepay, but you can use a CC at the pump. He said nope, the guy hasn't gotten any gas.
He comes back and says the guy was just getting gas. I said, well he hasn't gotten any yet, and I bet he didn't need any either. Did you look at his gas guage? He didn't. I demanded that a report be made, and he said he had something else to do, and would call another cop to come and do it. 30 mintues later, I asked if another one was comming, and he said yeah, so I waited some more. Finally the other cop comes and gives me the same "Innocent guy getting gas" crap.
I was so mad I told the cop "This is my official notice to you. and I suggest you warn that guy, because I work out here every night, I know when somebody is up to no good. Now that I know how helpful you are when someone is trying to possibly assault me, I will not be driving to the police to handle it legally. I will handle it myself. Then you can clean up the mess."
and trust me, I will.
So much for trying to do it the right way.

* the guy never did get any gas, either.

ATST, you need a cell phone and a gun.
Next time you may not be able to make it back to your truck.

1)Hit the 911 Speed Dial.

2)Move behind the rack, take up a comfortable firing position while clearly displaying your large caliber firearm.

3)Smile.

"911, how may I help you..."

ATST "Yes Operator, I have just shot two, wait...."
BLAM! BLAM-BLAM!.....BLAM!
"...make that three perpetrators."
"I'll need a ambulance, wait....."
BLAM! BLAM!
"...I mean coroners transportation, an officer on scene and..."
"where do I file to be reimbursed for ammo?
"

I have three comments......

1) Why does everyone keep calling you son, your daughter?

2) See, good things DO happen to good people

3) As far as throwing the money at your truck,
maybe he was bidding on it!

As to the son vs. daughter issue, I don't know, but it really wasn't that big a deal to me. I just enjoyed hearing everyone comments. Kinda the spirit of the thing vesus the letter. As to this moron bidding on my truck with a handful of pennies, "what are ya tryin' to say here, pal!" It's not a Lightning, but it's worth a 'little' more than a handful of pennies.

Well, I applaud you for (1): tracking down this moron and taking the proper action in getting a cop on the scene to arrest him, and (2) telling your daughter that violence is not usually the best way to handle things in the real world.
. . .
Na, na, na!
