Can you retro fit the telescopeing mirrors on a truck that has the fold away mirrors?

Yes, done that , dealer price is $450 for the kit...Takes 45 mins to do the first and 10 minutes to do the second...

Well worth it!!!

Dont forget the power mirror or the heated mirror...

I have the paperwork right here from when my selling dealer changed out the standard power mirrors for the telescoping power mirrors (non-heated). The part # on my receipt is 2C3Z-17696-BAA, which shows a list price of $313.50. Dealer allegedly charged me their cost for the parts since I was buying the truck from them, which shows as $274.31. They charged $40 labor for the install.

Mach1 - sounds like maybe you got taken on that one.

JD--I already had the truck for awhile before swithching them out...I bought the kit from the dealer, put them on myself and still have the originals...

Actually, we both got taken---The telescoping mirrors are a $100 option back then...If they come on the truck when you order it/buy it...

Such is life...Live and learn..

Good point! D@mn those dealers!!

Oh - and I still have my original mirrors as well. Since they weren't willing to do the mirror swap at no cost, and were making me pay their cost for the kit, I made them give me my original mirrors back. Wasn't gonna let them keep them and sell them to someone else.

Man, I did get ripped, I tried to get them to do the install for the old mirrors, no such luck...

Yea, if only the factory trucks came with them($100)...

I lost on that one, but I do love the hell out of the mirrors and tow alot, so it was my only option...

I guess I am going to have to put on an additional 50000 miles on my truck to get the money back...

There is a dealer over at Dieselstop.com will get em for you for about $250 a set and ship em to you. Cochise Ford I think. Go over and search for him. And the powered ones are about the same price as the manual ones belive it or not. You want the 2000 or up Mirrors with slide out. 99 did not slide out or have movable convex mirrors on them. I got mine from him. The first truck I had em on did not have powered mirrors so I just tucked the plugs in and left em. But when I traded that truck the one I bought to replace it had no TT mirrors but it did have powered mirrors on it so I swaped em out and plugged em on in. Only thing I had to do different was remove the door panels to get to the plugs.

mirrors

Good luck on those mirrors, I tell you I don't think I would want them. I live in Kentucky and on a lot of those back roads that I drive all the time are very narrow and no shoulder. I finally smacked mirrors with another truck. It was a earlier model chevy with the metal backing mirrors. My mirrors did not stand a chance. Any way to make a long story short (I only have the 1999 style mirrors), the dealer wanted $130 to replace the whole assembly. I refuse to spend that kind of money with the possibility of it happening again. So being the engineer that I am, I went to a glass company and gave them a sketched pattern of the mirror opening. They cut me a piece of mirror out of 1/4" thick stock (yes 1/4" thick). I ripped out the electronic guts from the mirror housing. I used some high strength Dexter/hysol epoxy I "borrowed" from work. I cut out a piece of 3/4 ply wood, drilled 4 counter sunk holes in a square pattern into the ply wood. Ran some lag bolts into the holes and epoxied the mirror to the wood. I then drilled through the mirror housing and inserted the new mirror - double bolted from behind the housing and ground off the bolts down to the nuts. There is a stand-off piece of plastic inside the housing that I used to "pivot the mirror on and I adjusted the mirror to my driving position. Granted, the mirror is no longer auto adjust (only the passenger side is), but I believe the next time I smack mirrors with someone, they will loose there mirror long before I will. Oh yeah, the cost was less than $10. You can do the same thing with the telescoping mirrors too - just need to be a little creative
