first power stroke mods

I want to get a super duty with a power stroke. I was going to go brand new, but I may not. I guess the 99 and up are the way to go? After the K&N and exhaust, what are some good mods. Mach1...you mentioned the stock injectors are good to 400 hp. I think thats good enough for me (I already have a lightning for real go fast). What about a chip. Where are you guys getting them from? How bout those power programers that plug into your test port (I like that, because it won't cause a hassle with warrenty like a chip).

Thanks for any input.

oh...how quick will new mods be available for the new 6.0? That sounds pretty mean!

You can get your chip/programer here from Mike Troyer. For a total diesel fanatic page check out www. ford-diesel.com

Whip--on a used PSD, It might be a good idea to stay away from the 99-mid 2000, the T/C had problems, there are other little quicks that they worked out...

As far as chips--you should work it all together intake, exhaust and chip...Sorry for the 101, but I see people all the time going with just a chip and forgeting the exhaust...

Your timing is perfect on the chip..We have a four bank, four position with a selector switch that you can mount on your dashboard...Four settings that we can program for you..your selection...I have propane, so I could have a propane selection, extreme, stock, emission, fuel mileage, etc...

Email me if you are interested..

I agree from friends that have the psd, chip alone is not the way to go. I would also stay away from troyer. Check out the online store here, they have the hypertech programer and Mach1 has some nice stuff and good ideas.

I'd start with a good set of guages to monitor exh temp, boost, and trans temp. After you get some baseline, move to airflow improvements. K&N filter and aftermarket exhaust.

Then dig into the fuel and computer changes - if the airflow improvement make it what you want you don't have to get into the electronics.

Terry, thanks for the words...Like guardrail says...Its a good idea to baseline with the guage sets...You cant have enough guages..I am going to add another two or three...The stock ones aren't guages, even though they look like them..

Baseline and scientific proof are the best, because you know for a fact, not just guessing or seat of pants...

Guardrail is right again on getting your free power first and then if you need more go that way...

The chips they have out there is unreal now...The programmer is easy to use and is good for most people, then if you really want power the new 4 bank, 4 setting chips with the rotary switch while you drive-are the way to go...Imagine changing your chip settings while driving down the road!!!!Want to blow away that Dodge Cummins or 1/2 ton???Just turn the dial for instance power..

There are all kinds of power mods out there for less then $100 total if you do the work yourself...

Cool

Mach1, I am still debating on the new motor and trans. I give my truck back to Ford tommorrow. I know that logic says do not buy first year, but,, the new package looks good. Have you heard anything other than rumors? I like the new heavy trans if they did it right and I have heard nothing saying they have not. Factory Tech seems to like the trans, and before long we will not have a choice on the power train. Thanks,
Terry

there's some factory guys from Ford and Navistar over at blueovalneews that think the 6.0 PS is being hurried.

I'm trying to find a left over 2002 250CC diesel but its frustrating trying to get dealers to deal.

There will be some truck on lots for a long time with the kind of attitutde I'm seeing. There's a demo with 7000 miles on it in Texas - the guy says he won't even consider Xplan - wants $700 over invoice. Excuse me - for what - outdated used merchandise being displaced by new models and options.

Another one is Baton Rouge - quote "we'll let this truck sit here until its two years old before we'll go under invoice to move it".

You know they have hold back to play with, you know they've been paying deductible interest on floor plan - they can go down on these units, move them and still show + cash flow.

So maybe a new one is the way to go.

Whip,
Last year, I purchased a used 2000 F-250 Super Duty, Crew Cab, two wheel drive. So far, I added the superchip, K&N filter system, Mag-Hytec deep dish transmission pan and the Mag-Hytec rear end cover. What a difference in power as well as fuel economy. Hopefully, by the end of the year, I will be adding the Cyclone engine fan and the Bully Dog 4inch 303 grade stainless steel exhaust system !!
The big thing that I noticed between the diesel engines and the gasoline engines is that a person only has to spend a reasonable amount of money on mods for the diesel to achieve better performance, horsepower and even better fuel mileage than the gasoline engines. Good Luck. Bugman.

actually the Ford 4th qtr program favors 2003 over 2002.

guess I'll be in the 6.0/spd

G.R. I think you cant go wrong...with either diesel..Supposly the 6 liter is highway tested with lots of miles...

Navistar has always done its homework, now if Ford can interface it...everything should go well...

Navistar, is already highway testing the camless, which wont be out for 06/07..this is when I will buy again...

Whip Guardrail Guys, word of caution...before you get to many of the engine mods done, espically the chips, recomend the fuel system mods be performed first...

Just got some feed back on a customer that went with the banks extreme setup and now #8 is gone...dont know if #8 is LL or it got fuel starved...
I haven't seen the truck yet, but he wants to do the fuel system now...
