Gas Mileage

I currently have a 2001 F250 superduty super cab short bed with 4:10 gears. I get 10 miles per gallon just put in a K&N filter. Truck is getting duals today. Any ideas on how to improve gas mileage it has the 5.4

On my F-150 5.4, I put in the Superchip along with the K&N FIPK. I went from about 13-->15MPG. Granted, I had 3.73 gearing.

BTW, the reason I got rid of the F150 was because of above. Now I'm getting a consistent 18MPG unloaded.

How are you only getting 10mpg? Do you haul or tow a lot? I haul a half-ton or so up and down the mountainous areas of CT and I still get atleast 13mpg and up. AND I have a leadfoot. I understand having deeper gears hurts a little, but 10mpg?
I've heard getting electric fans put in helps mileage plus gives @ 10rwhp. A catback exhaust should help, but I really haven't seen any with mine. If you do any minor mod with the exhaust, just do a high flow muffler and be done with it. Good luck.

My mileage...

...was averaging about 13.5 - 14.5 mpg when not towing (mixed hwy/city). I would occasionally hit as high as 16 mpg, and as low as 11.5 mpg when towing/hauling.

maybe i'm just unlucky I do not tow with this truck. And the gas mileage is terrible. fist fill up after duals and the K&N filter was 13.3 hope it stays that or gets better.

I got just over 14 mpg this weekend towing a moderate (3.5K lb) load on flat highway, with some unloaded city driving thrown in.

Thumbs up cool

Took the beast on a trip over memorial weekend. My gas mileage was better than I expected.18mpg going down the highway is what I averaged.I guess the key is to not stop once you get these heavy trucks rollin down the road

Hmm, my 99 crew cab V-10 gets 10 for rural driving, haven't taken it on any longer trips yet. It has the stock 3.73's, with 33x12.50x16.5's BFG AT's. I can't wait to see how bad it gets when I get the car-hauling trailer later this year...
